John Gillespie's waters & woods

I like the show. Have been watching it for yeaaars, from back in his Pabst days. Anyways, todays show had him fishing Escanaba lake in Vilas county. For those not familiar with the lake, it has been an experimental lake that allows any fish caught can be kept, with no limit and no closed season. That is untill a few years ago. Now walleyes must be 28". Last time I fished it 4 years ago, there were guides taking clients out and "limiting" (if you will) out. Johns show was filmed just last week, and they were hammering the 'eyes.

Just seems odd how a lake with no limits and no stocking for 50 years (or however long it has been experimental) can still give up such consistant fishing. I dont get it.

Just watched the show myself. Been watching John for years. I love his enthusiasm. The best Wisconsin based outdoors show out there. Some day I will fish Escanaba Lake. Probably 150 miles from where I live. Lots of interesting info on the www about this lake. Lots of scientific research and dnr stuff. If I could watch only one fishing show it would be John Gillespie's "Woods and Water".

I catch his show at my buddies house on a rare occasion. No TV at my place so it's rare I watch any.

Ditto on the enthusiasm. Gotta love it, slobosaurus and all that. Not a criticsm by any means.

I've heard him interviewed on th eradio a few times as well. Just up-beat and excited about fishing on the radio as he is on TV. Seems like a great guy.

"HOLY COW PETE, HOLY COW PETE, GET THE FRABIL, OH MY GOD PETE, HOLY COW PETE, NICE FISH PETE, OH MAN WHAT A SLOBO, HOLD THAT FISH UP FOR THE FOLKS AT HOME.......Hey, one thing I wanna re-iterate.....Whatda say we go ashore for a Johnsonville??.....What I like to do is boil 'em in Linnies for about 10 minutes, then heat 'em up on the grill.....So howz that taste Joe??"

His shows verbism is quite the same week in, week out, but all kidding aside, I do watch his show every time I can. He does offer good local fishing spots here in Wisconsin. John if you're reading this, no slam buddy, just ribbing all in good nature.

If I have to come to Johns defence I will. This is what John is, genuine, interested, interesting, very excited and hard working. But... when my Wife and Daughter walk through the TV room when John is in a highly excited moment they do not understand. John is good entertainment.

One more thing, he is great at getting his advertisers on the air.

"get the Frabil", "boil'em in Leinies" etc.

He has made a good business for himself fishing and promoting fishing to others.

Wisconsin Outdoorsman Hall of Fame? Automatic shoe-in.

I see this morning the show was on the TFF near Mercer. I was fishing the flowage the same day they filmed it, but I never saw them.

Did anyone recognize the area of the flowage they were fishing? Western? Southern?

They had far better luck slaying the walleyes than I did LOL
