Source for Winchester 94 Disassembly Instructions ??
« on: April 16, 2006, 04:32:04 AM »
I found this website with instructions and photos:  http://www.castbullet.com/misc/tdown.htm .

Looks good to me.

I've never taken my 1970s-produced 94 down for a thorough cleaning.  These instructions seem straight forward and I've got necessary tools.

Any other online sources anyone knows of??

Many thanks.

I sometimes check out the online viewable schematics for help at numrich gun parts co.  They have them for quite a few guns

Here is the list of winchester models, some of the 94's have the schematic.

That's a good site to have stored away somewhere for when you have to strip the 94. They are kind of a bear to take apart if you aren't all that mechanical.

I have a M-64 Winchester that Iam getting ready to blue. I would like to disassemble it as shown in the link above. The screw #3 does not exist on mine. In that location is simply a pin. Can I assume that removing that pin will be the same as if it had the screw over it. If so which way will the pin need to be drifted? Thanks. Bobcat
PS I`m also in need of new wood for this rifle and hoping someone knows where I can find both front and rear stocks.

Bobcat - one of our sponsors is a gunstock maker.  His add and website come up on the Index page.  Give it a look.  I think those pins always drift left to right.  I don't know why but I think they do.  HTH.  Mikey.

Mikey I should have asked this yesterday but didn`t think of it at the time. The tutorial above begins with the disassembly and removal of the magazine assembly. Is that required in order to disassemble the reveiver (action ) components in the following steps?
Also I did look at the ad for Gunstocks Incorporated and found nothing available for the M-64. Other pistolgrip were available though and I emailed an inquiry as well. Hopefully that will get a response. If not I will just do needed repairs to the wood I have and get on with the project. Thanks for your help. Bobcat

Removing magazine assembly on Winchester M-64
« Reply #8 on: July 01, 2006, 09:20:04 AM »
I have checked the receiver screws on the 64 and was surprised to find them all to be loosenable. I had assumed that by the condition overall this was going to be a problem. Not so. Now I am encouraged more than ever to fully disassemble the gun and get all rust and sludge removed while I`m working on it. Its just that the above tutorial covers magazine removal on the 94 which is different from the 64. Tell me how to do that if you know. Thanks. Bobcat

Seems that things are not going so well in a couple areas of the disassembly process.
I removed screw #1 OK. The tang/hammer assembly does not seem to want to come down out of its current position. I know he says that its a tight fit and I have tapped with a hammer. I`m afraid to damage it. Can I be sure that what I have done so far is correct due to the slight differences in models? My winchester is a 64 (1951) and seral# 1981109.
Also I have attempted to drive the pin from its #3 location. Basicly the same thing happens. It will move about a millimeter and then seems to stop. Perhaps I`m just getting ahead of myself on that step and when the other parts are out it will come out too. Does anyone have input or comment on what is happening? I`m getting cold feet but really want to see this through to completion. Thanks. Bobcat
