HEADS UP!!  I just saw an amazing documentary about Timothy Treadwell;  The eccentric bear lover who along with his girlriend got eaten by a grizzly after 13 years of living with them.  This is an award winning documentary that will be repeated on Discovery channel 8 PM ET Saturday, 2/4.

Sorry but the guy was an idiot.  Maybe he had good intentions but what he was showing was dangerous.  Stunts like this are going to get somone else hurt attempting simular things.

I agree;  The film depicts this viewpoint and gets into his fried brain.  That's why this should be seen for what it is.  He attempted to erase the line that exists between animal & human kingdoms.  This is the kind of fruitcakes we are dealing with that lead anti-hunting, wacko environmental movements.  I believe we should KNOW OUR ENEMIES so we can defeat them.

It is my understanding that there is actually audio of the attack.  The camera fell, so there is no video.  The bear attacked him first and then his girlfriend.  I guess the audio is incredible.  The kind of thing that nightmares are made of.

Maybe I'm twisted, but I'd sure like to hear it...

The audio is so grusome, it wasn't included in the documentary but I've heard it before.  She tried to  save them with a frying pan due to their hatred of firearms.  He had made statements to the effect he would rather die than kill a bear.  He did indeed get his wish;  His girlfriend had been with him for 3 years prior to the attack so she too knew what she was getting herself into.

Tragic, but for a man who thought that he knew big bears, boy was he wrong!  I have heard, and read that the only thing certain about bears, is that there isn't anything certain about bears.  I wonder how Tim would respond to that statement?

I think he  did know a lot about all size bears & would agree & I  also think he had a death wish.  I think the bear in this case was an  older bear &  not able to work very hard for a meal.  He points out in the documentary that these are also the most dangerous as they need an easy meal to survive.

Got to see it last night. Seems like the guy was an alcoholic and a drug user in his days before getting himself straightened out.
He had the "passion" for his undertaking but some how you get the impression he thought he was special and could co-exist with these big
puppies.  I guess if you "believe" it, it must be so.
To bad the bears didn`t believe it.

Actually, it was a juvenile bear that took them out.  Much like our own teenagers, they are punks; pushing the limits to see what they can get away with.  Big enough in size, and bravado, but a little short on experience.  Very dangerous bears!

Be careful out there!

Was Treadwell a nutcase?

Yes.

Was there great footage of big bears being bears?

Absolutely!!

I don't recall ever seeing such footage. The one on one fight was incredible.

Gives one a new insight on the power and ferocity of these critters.

The footage mentioned might have been in the film Grizzly Man and not the documentary on Discovery. Might have been in both.

I've seen some pretty good footage of a bears, and not just from this guy, of course after more than ten years you are going to compile some good shots.

Their getting munched had nothing to do with a teenage punk bear.  This bear came down for food, was late in the year, and not having much left, ate both of them.  He didn't just go to mess with them, the bear actually ate many of their body parts.

I forgot his name, but there was once a real Grizzley man, who wasn't crazy, and did real research...  I wish I could remember his name.  There is footage of him, his camp surrounded by I think four juvenile grizzlys, which he bluff charges a few times to get rid of them.  Crazy people are crazy, doing something to stay alive with bears that arent used to you being around, that is a whole different story.

i saw this show.....um..i dont have alot of good to say about treadwell.  he was a loon....and we got to see him unravel more and more each year he went back.  what was up with his god complex in "willing the weather to change".  and his attempt at making an action sequence through staged camera angles amd multiple takes as he would enter an area.

and his assessment of bear crap...(ironically he became some)....this guy was a very lucky loon for a time.  too bad he had to take his g/f there to be killed too.

his rearranging the stream's flow sequence was the hieght of hypocrasy.  he was all about keeping thing pristene.  THAT WOULD INCLUDE ALLOWING BEARS TO DIE FROM NATURAL OCCURANCE SUCH AS DROUGHT!.

you hit it on the head wijim.

the guy was a crackpot.  his business partner was a absolute fruit.  the guy that made the film was a nut as well.

i was dating a girl and we watched it one day.  i expected a compilation of the footage treadwell shot.  instead,  we got a peep in the minds of a bunch of pinheads.   that girl wanted to kill me.  cant say  i blame her.  lol.   she about flipped with the bear scat scene.

these people are such hippocrites.  dont want hunters interfering, but yet they dont mind if they do.  somehow it must be different.   they are all crackpots.

i loved the film,  because it show just how stupid these morons are.   it should sway people on the fence to see just how dumb they are.

I've spent less time in bear country less than that guy, but I know if you monkey around with a grizz today, you will be bear scat tomorrow.

I think what we saw was a series of "Takes" he was filming to put togeather for his grass roots environmental wacko group he founded.  Look up http://www.grizzlypeople.com .  His audience was a bunch of like minded wierdos who contributed $$$ allowing Treadwell to pay for his radical lifestyle.

Here is the sadest part of it all:

They killed the bear that killed treadwell and his girlfriend.  Was this a problem bear?  Was it going into town and being a danger to other people?  Was it in an area in which it was likely to take on humans again?  All of these answers are no.  He deserved it, he got it, thank you bear, leave my hero alone.
