i was looking for the two 17 rimfires on their site for a price check but i didn't see them. anybody know if they seel them and how much they want for a Sportster 17 Mach 2

$129 last time I saw em, they don't list them on the special order web page cuz they're considered normally stocked. UPC is listed in the FAQ if you want em to order one for ya....Sports South shows em in stock... :wink:

I've looked in the FAQ's on the center fire forum and did not locate the UPC's for Walmart. The local Walmart said if I can locate the UPC for the 17M2 and the 17HMR they would be glad to order them for me. Need assistance plz.

I pm'd Bluebayou(a Walmart Employee) for an updated list of the UPCs for all the NEF/H&R firearms available from Walmart, both special order and regular stock which both .17s are listed as, that's why they aren't on the web site. Bluebayou stated in a past thread that each Walmart has 2 books, the special order and a regular stock catalog, so if he can look the numbers up, any sporting goods manager that knows what he/she is doing, should be able to look it up too!!

Never seen such admiration for a big outfit as on here.

What's the reason so many go to w/m instead of supporting their
local one owner gun shop??

Mine beat the price's you guys are quoting by several bucks.
Paid $115 for a Topper today. Walmart quoted $129 by phone just to
compare.

I'd like to see others shop around some. W/m sure don't need the money to run all the little stores out of business.

Thanks for the consideration, don't take it wrong, I do shop there some about every month.

I can only give you my opinion. I only have a couple local gun shops in my area so how do I put this delicately... I guess I can't so I will just say it.

I shop at my local Walmart because every gun shop in my town tries to rape me on anything I try to purchase from them. God help me if my Walmart ever decides to stop selling ammo, rifles and shotguns.

That's pretty much the same story here, the little guys price themselves right out of the market, so it's just a matter of economics.

I don't think it is so much that the little guys have priced themselves out of business , but the big chain stores like Walmart and others have forced the gun makers to to deal with them on bulk pricing .

Its plain economics , that if you want to sell in our stores all over the country at x - amount of guns per year , you will sell them to us at x - dollars , were as the the small shops do not have the amount of sales to compete .

Also the the little guys have a larger overhead than the big box stores do on a dollar for dollar value . the small guys may have to charge $10.00 per gun to break even but the box stores may only need to make $2.00 per gun and make up the diffrence on some other item that the small shop does not sell , like a microwave or clothes or food items .

The last mom & pop store here went out of business 2 yrs ago, they couldn't buy firearms at their price level as cheap as Walmart/BiMart/Sportsmans Warehouse were selling them for retail, let alone make a buck or 2 on each sale. Consequently, they had to price firearms considerably more than what the big stores were selling them for just to break even.

Like I said, it's just a matter of economics, most people are going to look for the best buys regardless of loyalty towards the small shops, specially when it makes the difference between buying and not buying. If there was little difference in price, they'd buy from the little guy, but the difference is usually not a small amount, it sure wasn't around here, never has been.

I agree with you on most people needing to buy at the lowest price that they can , and another thing that has hurt the mom & pop shops are the internet sales places like mid-south and midway .

The small shops used to be the only place to get reloading supplys and the such , now they are only a mouse click away .

Like it or not the days of the local gun shop are rapidly becoming a thing of the past , and i for one will miss them very much .

i totally agree i spend the extra in the small guys place a lot of the time just so i feel iam helpin them out, may not be a lot but it helps, i just bought a handgun from a local guy cost me 35 more then the large chain 30 miles away , but i got it from him , and he knew i go that way alot , he was happy i got it from him so its a good deal , all i can say is try to support them if yu can

Unless you are looking at a top dollar Browning A-bolt or AR or something the guys at my local 'mom & pop' don't seem to want to give you the time of day. They seem to have the attitude that if the gun doesn't cost five or six hundred bucks it's a piece of $#!%% and so are you for considering it. They are usually to bussy talking with each other or their buddies that hang out at the store that they don't have time to answer any questions or help find something. In short I can get the same service (if not better) at Wally-World and pay 10 to 15% less.

I have to agree with you on the service at the local shops , at least around here they all belong to the same gun club and if you are not a member they look at you as if you are a lower form of life .

And as for the lower priced firearms one shop will not even order them , all they want to order are the high dollar stuff .

The local shops used to be a place for people to get together and talk guns and hunting , hell i even learned to load ammo in one of these small shops . Know all we have are the big box stores that have robots to help you .

Unless I made a mistake Sports South lists the Sportster 17 Mach 2 at $180.00. Maybe they have taken a price increase. I am thinking about getting one myself. Anyone know how the NEF 17 Mach 2 does in the accuracy dept. compared to say a Marlin or Savage?

Sports South's prices are list or MSRP, not the retail price, look at Walmart for the actual retail prices, their SO firearms web site is listed in the FAQ.

My 17M2 Sportster shoots as good as my 17Hmrs, they're very accurate, consistently less than 1" at 100yds.

I checked with Walmart. They are $134.88. I will go down and order me one this evening. Since most of my shots are 100 yards or less the Mach 2 should do me just fine. What it won't do my 17 HMR or my 22 mag will. :grin:

I'm still waiting for the Sportster 17 Mach 2 to come in. I Asked a couple people that work in the sporting goods dept. how long it takes normally to get a rifle in. One told me 2 weeks and another told me 5 business days. :eek: I hope the guy that said 5 business days is the one that knows what he is talking about. :grin:

It shouldn't take more that a few days if they actually ordered it, their supplier is in Shreveport LA, and they have the 17M2 in stock, I just checked. I got mine in 7 days here on the west coast, I would double check and make sure they actually ordered it, it wouldn't be the first time reported here that they didn't actually place an order when they said they did. Did you get a machine generated receipt showing the Walmart order number for the rifle? Seems to me Bluebayou said the order process was going to change so the ordered could be put into their system right from the gun counter instead of from layaway, maybe there's a problem with that new system.

I had to go to layaway to order this rifle. It would be nice to be able to order from the counter instead of having to go to layaway. I have the receipt they gave me. I am probably just impatient. :grin:

I finally picked up the Sportster 17 Mach 2 today. They were suppose to call me when it came in but somebody must have forgot. I called today to inquire about it and they told me it had been in for several days.

I got it cleaned up and got the scope mounted on it today but didn't get to try it out. I will post some target pics when I get it sighted in. My Walmart only had 1 box of the 17 Mach II ammo in stock.

I'd be happy to support my local gunshops, if I felt that they weren't trying to galge me. I just quoted a savage 17hmr from the local guys at $185, and it is only about $140 at walmart. In the same conversation, I priced the H&R equivalent and not only were they going to charge me $130 for the rifle...they had removed the hammer extension and weaver sight rail for me to purchase separately! Unbelievable, when they come included, for free, when I order the rifle from Walmart...

I had the same experience with a place I do business with when I purchased a Yugoslavian 24/47. AIM surplus sold the rifle with the bayonet and this place sold the bayonet separate. Both places sold the rifle at the same price. Had I known this I wouldn't have bought from them. :x

Took the Sportster 17 Mach 2 out finally for some shooting. This rifle at 50 yards is an absolute tack driver. I was having a lot of trouble with the scope I put on it.

The scope is a Simmons 6x24x50 with A/O. I don't know what model it is. I just couldn't keep my sight picture focused. I use to have this scope on a 17HMR and had the same problem then. I am not sure what kind of warranty Simmons has on their scopes.

I was going to post some pics of the groups but I want to wait until I get the scope lined out. In a lot of my 3 shot groups there would be 2 of the shots going into 1 ragged hole.

I noticed the barrel was not free floated at the forearm but as long as this rifle is shooting like this I am not going to change anything. I should add I think this is one rifle that would benefit from a good trigger job, but even though I have read that doing a trigger job isn't that bad I don't think it is something I want to try. :grin:
