Since the FA has 1 in 24" twist in the 454 barrel, I was wondering how low in velocity can you go with 275-300 grain bullets before the accuracy starts to suffer? Standard 44 mags have 1 in 20" twist barrels BTW.
Also, if you get a 45C cylinder and shoot CAS rounds, will they be accurate???

i used to shoot 300 grain lead bullets with 12 grains unique.  it was one of my favorite recipes for the 454.  i was shooting mine out of a raging bull,  so i cant tell you how they will do out of a f.a.; i suspect they will do just fine.    recoil was comparable to a 44 mag.

I used the freedom Arms reloading data. I used the Hornady xtp/Mag 300 grains on top of 7.4 grains of Bullseye(900)feet per second. I used this cartridge shot at 50 yards off a rest made of a roll of carpet. Three holes are touching, one an inch away and one flyer about 1 1/2 inches off the group.
These group was much better than the same bullet shot a full power at 1700 feet per second.

22 to 24 grains of AA9 behind Hornady's 250 grain non magnum XTP. Comfortable to shoot. I have only shot off hand so I can't comment on just how accurate it is but, I killed a nice little buck this year at close to 100 yds with 24g of AA9 and the 250 XTP. It hit right where I was aiming. It will normally put all rounds on a paper plate at 75 yards.

i have shot the lbt 300gr lfn in the 1000fps range with good results loaded in the 454 case

Very interesting load! Where did you get it? Any idea what could be the pressure? I suspect that muzzle blast is quite low, certainly lower than one of magnum cartridges.

Freedom Arms has load data for their bullets down to 820 fps.  I have loaded 9.0 grains of WW231 behind 250 grain cast bullets.  Every load I have tried in my FAs has been quite accurate.

I recently loaded up some reduced loads using 8.0 grains of Bullseye under a 250 gr. Hornady XTP. It was VERY accurate, I was impressed. Four shots pretty much cut a 1" hole out of the target at 25 yards. Recoil is still pretty snappy, but not very heavy, and the cases just fell out of the cylinder. I have no idea how fast the bullets were traveling as I have no chronograph. Also wanted to mention that they hit about 3.5" above point of aim.

down at the bottom of the page they have 454 loading data.

I have been shooting the Unique load with a 300 grain cast out of my 4" and 6" 454's.  1010 fps out of my 4" gun and 1050 out of the 6".  This is an extremely pleasant load.  And out of the 4" gun, hits to the same point as a moderately heavy 454 load with same bullet weight.

My reduced load is 11.5 gr Herco , 300 WFNGC.  Figure it's anywhere from 950 -1100 fps. No chrono?

Check out the 250 g JHP from Winchester in 454 Casull, X454C3.  It could be the slowest factory 454 Casull load out there.  I found them at www.winchester.com, and ordered from a major supply house.  They have not come in, but maybe today I will get lucky.  Certainly 1300 fps is much slower than the 1800 fps 260 g PG load from Winchester!
