I was wondering how often you refresh a meat bait site. Thanks Slim

refreshing a bait

I have been baiting for a lot of years.  For me it depends on the amount of bait activity in an area.  If there are other guides/hunters with baits in the area then I bait every two days.  If I am all alone with no other operations near by then I go a little longer.  I also find that if I am baiting in an isolated area with a large bear population. I can  be a bit lax on the amount of bait I use as well as the frequency.

I load the baits up good with meat the first time out and once the meat gets to smelling awful, the bear usually start hitting it good. After that I use one five gallon bucket of meat/bones and fill in the rest with pop corn mixed with peanut butter and cattle molasses. It works great, I mix it in 55 gal drums. It doesn't take a lot of work to do it up, and you can bait 30 or 40 bait sites cheap! The bears love it, some baits will have meat left but the pop corn mix will be gone.   At one time or another I have used about every thing imaginable for bait and the popcorn mix works the best for me.

Good luck! :D
