Hello. :D . this is my first time soI have a few questions for yall.
Yesterday I bought a dan wesson blue .357 with a 2in barrel
It didnt come with any other parts so I guess I need a barrel wrench and guage and i'd like a 4in barrel..
I heard these pistols will handle heavy loads is this true?
I did notice the cylinder seems a little longer then my BH is there a reason for this?
does anyone have a 4in barrel  and shroud for sale??
my DW is flawless perfect blueing and not a mark doesn't look like it was fired much.
I paid $300.00 out the door for it did I make a decent purchase?
I want this gun for home defense and hunting so I plan on A few barrels for it, Can you buy a barrel that will accept a scope?
I'm not new to pistols just Dan Wessons so I'm kinda on unknown ground and I'm so far pleased with this gun.
I hand load so and I can't find any load data for a Dan Wesson revolver I think it shoud be simular to a Ruger in strength. mainly because this pistol seems over built for its caliber it is quite heavy and I like that.

Sorry for all the questions.

I paid 350 for my 8" 357. You can order barrels, shrouds, feeler gauge and wrench from  CZ USA who bought  Dan Wesson..............

RLB

The parts for your gun can be ordered directly from Dan Wesson see the Sticky up at the top of the forum for contact info.

Be carefull on Ebay many people do not know that Dan Wesson is back in business and that makes items go for more than they cost new.

There is a guy on ebay selling the new style barrel wrenches and they usually sell for $50.00 they are $32.00 new from Dan Wesson. That is the wrench fealer gauge and allen wrenches for $32.00.

VH4 357 bbl is $129.00
VH6 357 bbl is $169.00
These are new not 20 year old ebay items.

Can we see some pictures? :>

I find that when I shoot hot loads with the 2 inch barrel on my W-12, it gets awfully hot. And yes, provided the gun is gapped correctly, it will shoot very well.

lets hear some more about you purchase and post some pictures. This forumn has been real slow recently.. summer is apon us and we are all mowing the lawn, cleaning the pool etc. we need some inspiration to get the lead out of our butts. I currently own two Dan wessons, model  #14&15,, both 6inch. the four inch barell is much sought after. My model 14 with a scope will shoot on a dime at 25 yards off a rest. they are great guns. But don't tell anyone else.. Lets keep it a secret. except for this forumn. There are a lot of older guns out there that still shoot great.. some need just a tune up.. main spring etc..

P.S.. $300 is not too bad depending on condition. I got both of mine for around two but watched auctions forever and was surprised as I finaly got one at that price. shorter barrell guns seem to cost more.. there are a lot more 6 inch barrells out there. Don;t nit pick with a gun price unless you don't like it.  You got it at a fair price.. all that is left is to shoot it and cherish it. and clean her to a nice shine.

I thought at the time the price was great. this pistol is the first Dan Wesson I have ever even seen. when compared to the other used fodder they had this one stuck out as pristine. it appears to have been shot only a few times I came to this because theres no bluing wear on the cylinder at all. I was in the market for a Smith when I saw this one I have read alot about them. So when I saw this one at cabelas I almost broke my arm reaching for my wallet. like I said before I'm not new to pistols I have a blackhawk,629,sp101,and a single six. this one overshadows all the others as far as apperance, and odvious quality. I plan on buying a 4 and 6 inch barrel. maybe even a ten inch (for home defense).. I didn't want a short barrel but it's growing on me. mine has pac finger groove grips..I kinda like them.

My serial number is 243XXX.

one question?? is there suposed to be a pin in that small hole between the top on the hammer and the cylinder just below the rear sight??

Also I had to adjust the overtravel screw on the trigger because it was hitting the back of the trigger guard and was allowing the cylinder to open  with the hammer cocked.

Aother one.. How would go about repainting the reat sight the paint in the square groove is faded so I scraped it out with a pick..I also noticed this pistol has a short DA travel. much shorter then a smith or ruger. mine breaks at 8 pounds DA in single it breaks at 2 1/2 pounds..pretty sweet I think and smooth..I like the heavy weight as well the front cylinder release will take so getting used to. I bet not to many one armed shooters bought these  ..

Welcome to the DW family!
Yes, there is supposed to be a split pin in that small hole in the frame between the top of the hammer and the cylinder. It is difficult to see because it is so small. It holds the firing pin in the frame, or rather keeps it from coming out since it is, of course, a spring loaded firing pin.

Regarding repainting the rear sight groove - I wouldn't worry about. The white outline doesn't really help the sight picture much. A pure black rear sight will work just fine.

Sounds like you've got some great trigger pull specs. Sounds like you found a good gun.

My first DW was a 10" barreled 357, and I used it quite a bit for IHMSA silhouette shooting. After about 12 years, I bought a 4" VH (vent heavy) barrel and laminated rosewood fingergroove Hogue grips to carry on the job for a few years.

These DW's are extremely strong guns. And, are excellent values! Hope you fall in love with yours.

Well this morning I went to the BPS to try out my DW..First off I noticed it was shootin 4in left and 6in high..with some adjustment I got the DW shootin straigh but still 4in high, even with the rear sight adjusted all the way down. now if I bury the front sight in the rear it will hit dead on at 20yds but I hate shooting that way I perfer to level off the sights at the top. I guess I need a shorter front sight. still it was shootin 2in 3 shot groups even if 4in high at 20yds off hand I was impressed..after all this is a 2in barrel. I plan on a longer barrel. Does DW make a 5in barrel?? I am stuck between a 4in and 6in barrel decision so a 5in makes sence..
my front sight is .200 high is there one smaller?? I was shootin 158gr magtec jsp..
WAIT A MINUTE..I think my front sight was in backwards..I'll look at some pics and see if i'm right. will that make it shoot high??

Hopefully that solved your problem. But if it didn't, you will need a TALLER sight, which will make you point the barrel lower when the top of the front sight is even with the top of the rear sight, and therefore your shots will print lower than before. If you call CZ-USA, DW, and tell them your problem, as well as the length of your barrel, I'm sure they can suggest what height front sight to buy from them to get your shots printing on target.
No, I don't believe DW offers a 5" barrel. For ease in carrying, the 4" would be nice, and a little less bulky than a 6" barrel. And, with practice, you'll be able to be on target even at 50 yards plus.
If you're planning to do target shooting at 100 yards and more, I'd recommend going with a minimum of 6" barrel, but the 8" would handle those needs even better, and all the way out to 200 yards too. I've done a lot of silhouette (IHMSA) shooting, which is a sport with targets from 50 yards all the way out to 200 yards, with two of my DW's - one had a 10" barrel, and the other has an 8" one.

Let us know how things turn out.

...Or you could just shoot hotter ammo.   A DW won't know the difference.
