High Standard. I have one too, it was my grandfather's and is the first shotgun I ever fired.

I've got one also. Bought it early sixties. Has Ted Williams signature on it. Still a good shooter.

The Ted Williams name replaced the J. C. Higgins name somewhere along the line. It's been way too long for me to remember the date. I'm 61 and am quite certain the shotgun I have is older than me. Not all of the Ted Williams line was made the same or by the same companies as the J. C. Higgins lines were. Back in the JCH days many of the various guns were made by High Standard. Later Mossberg and others took over as HS cut back to just handguns.

I still have the JC Higgins that my Dad bought when I was in grade school, I'm 65 now. It's a 12 ga pump. I still use it every deer season here in Wisconsin with slugs. I have dropped many deer with this shotgun. It has a full choke and is very accurate with slugs and its bead sight. I also use it for crow hunting. Works for me. I will never sell it.

I know this is probably in the wrong forum but did JC Higgins make shells? I have a complete box of No 1 buckshot by JC Higgins. They have paper hulls. I found them in my father's old footlocker. I was just wondering how old they were.

J. C. Higgins made NOTHING. It was just a store brand used by Sears way back in the day. The goods that bore the name were all made under contract for Sears and that brand was placed on them. But yes Sears sold shotshells with that brand name on them. I used to buy them for $2 per box of 25 for 12 ga. loads.

I don't believe that the Ted Williams name was ever put on the pump or semi-auto guns made by High Standard. It was however, put on the Winchester built shotguns. Those built by High Standard are the better built ones, by a long shot.
