I'm sure anyone that owns one here will agree the 45/70 is ready to rock. I handload now, but we have 3 in the family that shoot factory 300's good and factory 405's great.

I did purchase a 06 last year and out of the box with handloads 165 grain hornady SP and 44.5 grains of IMR 3031 will print 3 shots at the 100 yard target a little under 7/8 ,not bad
My B.C. 45-70 just keeps getting better, happy with both guns

Wow those were 2 that I've been looking at. I don't hand load so it'll have to be factory I hope this doesn't deminish the value. I'm not looking for a bench gun just something to take hunting in the hills and get close to where I aim.

I don't think you'd go wrong with either. There are probably 3x as many loads available for the 30-06, but there are plenty mild to wild for the 45/70. Plus you can't beat the fun factor of the 45/70.

i have owned just abt all of em at one time or another and currently dont own any
but from personal experience the buffalo classic is the best all around nef
if you reload but for a starter that doesnt reload you cant beat a survivor in 308. i bought one, stuck a 25 dollar blazer scope on it and shot it four times to set the scope.
took it three days later and shot a nice little six point buck at 215 yards one shot dropped him
i then took it out to the range and shot a 5/8 inch group off the bags at 100 yards all using winchesters white box 150 grain factory stuff
just my two on it your milage may vary

I have heard of good accuracy out of all of those mentioned above & others, but probably most often with the .223.
