Interested in finding these bullets
« on: June 09, 2006, 06:32:43 AM »
Okay, folks. I'm looking into getting a .300 Whisper barrel for my Encore and happened across this German site. I have to say, these bullets are of great interest to me. Just thought I'd see if anybody knew where I might be able to pick some up and for what cost.

It looks a lot like the new bullets by Barnes. The TSX bullet line are made in a similar way and are touted as being the fastest, lowest pressure projectiles on the planet. I haven't and probably won't check out the claims until they have a few years on them. Let somebody else do the beta testing this time around. I already did that with the original Barnes X bullets. I was NOT a happy shooter. I'll just wait and see this time.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

Pretty interesting, They would make nice conversation pieces and/or additions to a collection. As for actual use,

Never seen anything like that before. Interesting though. The most interesting thing on that page to me was the O/U shotgun with the scope on it. I'd like to know the story there but my Russian is a bit rusty.

If you think you must have something like this, there is always the directory at swage.com of custom bullet makers who will make anything for a price. Obviously, the lack of weight, copper is not very dense, will cheat you of down range preformance, but the idea of the bullet coming apart into several sections... thrilling...

Mr. Keith wrote of casting pistol bullets with a cigarette paper across the mold so that there were two distinct halves only slightly held together. They had to be very carefully loaded. On firing the halves came apart and you had two holes in the target. Mr. Corbin has swage dies to make parts for multiple piece lead bullets... His ebooks are also available on that site and go into some of the more "off" bullet designs... luck

the O/U I believe to be a shotgun over a rifle barrel, much like a CZ584  http://www.gunsreview.com/shotguns/cz/cz584.html
The gun in the article looks to have a single trigger though.
