Anyone have the thumbhole stock on their Encore 209x50 and if so how do you like it???
I am interested in purchasing one and wanted some feedback first.
Thanks in advance

I bought a Encore 50 cal set up with a laminated stock and the stock split. I replaced it with a Walnut thumb hole stock and it is doing great. I love the thumb hole stocks.  But now I am back to a standard stock in a 50 cal because I just bought a new Pro-hunter set up. I have both now.  :D

I have shot the thumbhole and liked it a lot.  I have the traditional walnut stock on mine.  I still-hunt, and the regular stock is more comfortable for me, and lighter.  If I was in a tree stand or blind, I'd go with the thumbhole, personally.

Redhawk,
Have you had the chance to shoot the new Encore Pro-Hunter yet? 8)

I have not made it to the range yet. My business is picking up and limits my play time. Wife also has my spring clean up list and when I get caught up, I will be heading to the range. I have it scoped with a Leupold 3 X 9 X 40 and I am dying to shoot it. I am also trying to get another breech plug so I can send it to David White to have him modify it to accept the 25 ACP. I don't want to use them 209 primers.  TC told me I may have to wait tell June or July.

The thumbhole is comfortable to shoulder but does not provide a high enough comb (for me) to get a good cheekweld when looking through my scope.  This is also true with the regular synthetic stocks.

I fits me perfectly when looking down the iron sights.  Its just too bad that I don't prefer to shoot my 209x50 that way.

I have a laminate thumbhole on mine and love it.  I don't shoot magnum (ie, 100gr+ charges), so I'm not too worried about the stock splitting. I guess it would depend on your physique whether or not the stock is for you. I'm a smaller person.   I have no problems with my scope mounted in medium height rings.

I was only shooting 90 gr's of triple7 when my laminate thumbhole stock split. I never went over 100 gr.

You might want to get some Birchwood Casey stock wax and put a couple of coats inside. I have one laminated stock on my White Super 91 and did this after it was recommended to me.  The first coat soaked completely into the wood as well the second coat, this will help seal, protect, and water proof the stock.  I also put one coat on the outside, but didn't want to put anymore as it was getting shiney and slick.

Just a suggestion, but it worked for me and I recommend it as well. Might also keep the dry stock from splitting....maybe. 8)

I have shared this crazy opinion of mine before, but to me the standard stock is basically a thumb hole stock with the part over your thumb removed which means you do not need to remove your hand from the thumbhole to cock it.

whoa, that's what I'm shooting..  I would not be a happy camper if that happened to me.  Did T/C replace the stock?  I would hope they did.

I did not even call them up about it. I put some 2 part epoxy in the crack and put the stock on my 22-50 barrel. I am sure the recoil of the 22-250 will not cause any more problems.  I know I should of called T/C but I just did not take the time to do it. Now that I have messed with it, I am sure I voided any help.

I put the Synthetic Thumbhole stock on my Encore, I like it, BUT.  It does not fit in the Kolplin case to ride on the snowmachine or 4-wheeler.  I just remembered I was unable to get it into a case to take with me this spring.  I had forgotten about this till I read this thread.  I'll have to pull it out of the vault and determine why it does not fit.  I had just put the stock on the week before and had not tried it out in a case before, and when loading up I did not have the time to determine why it was not fitting.  I just left it in the truck for the week we were gone.  Carried my Handi rifle instead.

I've shot the thumbhole stocked Encore with a 30-06 and .338 WM barrel at the range and really like the way it shoots.   I have not shot the muzzleloading barrel yet with the thumbhole stock.

Just bought a 209x50 with a laminated stock. I liked the way the gun shouldered, very comfortable for me. However I can see how the comb can be too low for a scope. I like the fibre optic sights and wasn't planning on scoping the rifle anyway. But you know how that goes, might be asking for suggestions on a scope next season.
