How do I break in a SxS
« on: July 25, 2006, 05:04:26 AM »
I acquired a Stoeger Coach Gun yesterday, the action is pretty stiff and I'm wondering if there's any tricks for helping it get easier to open.  Appreciate the help.

Shoot that thing!  That's the best way.  The only way i know of, unless you want to open and close it a million times.  It' just much more fun stuffing shells in it each time you open it.

I don't agree in this case. The Stoeger guns are just not properly finished and it needs more than just being used. If you look at the mating parts where the barrels meet frame and the forend you'll see what I mean. Rough as a cob.

What I did to mine was liberally coat the mating areas with JB Bore Paste. Then open and close the action a bunch of times. Clean it all off really well with a spray product like BC Gun Scrubber or even brake cleaner and lube it and see if you got it done. If not do it again. Don't use anything more aggressive than JB tho or you might take off too much metal. JB only polishes.
