Big 2006 Flint Sale at Cains Outdoor
« on: July 20, 2006, 03:57:17 PM »
If anyone is interested, Cains Outdoor in West VA, is having a big 2006 bulk Flint sale this year for Tom Fuller hand knapped black English flints. Cains is a ML supplier, a big TC and GM dealer, also carries a lot of muzzleloading supplies...has a strong interest in muzzleloading and decided to help the muzzleloading community by coordinating this sale...minimum order of 50 Tom Fuller BEFs at Cains cost plus S&H. (1/2”, 5/8”, 3/4" will be one price...7/8”, 1", 9/8" and higher will be another price).

A really unselfish thing to do for Flintlock shooters and the sport...I ordered a bunch of flints plus restocked ML supplies in the same shipment...talk to Ed or Scott Cain (800) 445-1776...real people to work with, not department store types.

This is such a great opportunity for Flintlock shooters, the Board Administrator might want to "sticky" this at the top for a few months.

You'd really have to ask Ed and Scott...my gut says probably not...and the reason for the 50 flint minimum is simply an effort to control the amount of counting, repackaging, addressing, shipping, etc they they'll have to do for thousands of flints that will be coming in from Englad.

For example, each block of 1000 3/4" flints arrive from Tom Fuller in England in 4 heavy duty bags of 250 flints each...they have to be opened, flints counted out per customer order, packaged, addressed, mailed, etc...and with such volumes of flints since they're selling them at cost, they don't want to spend an enormous amount of time packing 10 for this person, 18 for that person, 25 for this person, etc.

If you've got only two sizes in mind like 5/8" and 3/4", and can at least settle on 25 of each...they might be willing to do...but bottom line is just call and ask...maybe they will.

On the other hand, the ability to buy argueably the best flints in the world at half price is a very rare opportunity...you might want to bite the bullet and order some real quantity while you can...worse case, in years ahead if you lose iunterst, you can always resell them and get your money back...for example, I shoot every weekend and ordered a few hundred...won't ever have to worry about flints again the rest of my life... ;D

OK, that is fair. Are these as good as the Hard German Agate flints? I have had English before, and they didn`t do as well as the German Agate. Jack.

I don't know anything about german flints...what experience I have had with a few different agates I've bought from companies here in the states is that they're junk compared to black English flints.....and in my years of being involved with Flintlocks and fellow Flintlock shooters/hunters, black English flints are all anybody wants to use.

I just finished two 50 shot range sessions on the same 3/4" black English flint and when I cleaned the rifle yesterday I finally tossed it and put in a fresh one...you'll have to decide for yourself whether or not a black English flint like that, delivered to your mailbox for .79 cents is worth it or not.

English flint; properly knaped, are the best.period.
TON'S of English Flint  is/are availabe world wide..They used the common rock as "ballast" for their ship's 400 years ago.
any agate or native chard is second at best. it's all about the knapping cut and fit ot lock,,,,,,,,
i'm a realist. i've not seen it all, but man ,,I've Been Around the block once or twice
