This is what I was thinking of!

This time last week I hated my .222 Contender Carbine, today you couldnt buy it from me for any price. After finishing my semi-inletted forearm and tinkering with forearm pressure I fired two three shot groups today the first measured 0.263" and the second was 0.543" both at 100 yards. Both were 50 Grain Sierra Semi-point bullets charged with 25.1 grs BLC-2 sparked by a CCI BR-4 Primer. The first group is a personal best. My forearm isnt even completly free floating. My  next two steps will be to completely free float the forearm and Buy a hand held neck turning tool, and turn all of my case necks to a consistent thickness and see if I can shrink these numbers a little. I would have fired more but my buddy's kid wanted to go home and he was driving.

Maybe it just me but with groups like that I think I'd leave the forend alone now unless it started giving bad groups again.

Had pretty much the same experience with same barrel.  I got the Fox Ridge thumb hole stock and wide forend.  Things weren't going too good, so I glass beded everything from one forend screw to the other about half way up on the barrel channel and freefloated everywhere else(about 1/8" clearance).  I didn't quite get 1/4 moa like you but it improved GREATLY.  BTW, after a very slight amount of trimming around screw holes,  this forend works great on any 16" or 21" barrel I,ve tried.  Ain't it FUN when sumptin' turns out right.  GOOD SHOOTIN',  Walt   :-D    :-D    :-D

Hit the range the other day and fired some more. No groups as spectacular as my near 1/4" group from the day before, but still nothing over an inch. I have decided to leave the forearm alone. I am ready for varmint season now.

How do you go about free floating forearms on the  contender and the encore? that could be some of my problems, got plenty for forearms to work with. kevin
