Softening LBT Blue
« on: March 30, 2006, 02:58:33 AM »
Veral,

Is it possible to soften up your LBT Blue with anything, like vasoline perhaps? Any recommended amount per stick?

I bought some of your Blue for my Saeco sizer and of course use some heat (old iron). It gets kind of touchy on pressure vs heat and I'd like to eliminate it if possible. As this was my first order of your lube I went middle of the road. Next time I'll be buying the soft.

Thanks

Why did you guess Vaseline?  Yes it works great, and is the only softener I would reccomend trying.  The few customers I've reccomended it too found no reduction in lube quality, or change in performance, by adding up to 10% vaseline, and I estimate that percentage will change the hardness of Blue to about that of Blue Soft.  If you use a higher percentage, you may get some leading with stout loads that don't lead when lubed with pure LBT formula..  Just melt them together in a pan, on a coffee maker warmer is ideal as they never go over about 200 degrees.  No need to stir a lot.  When it's melted, just swirl it around a bit and pour directly into the lubricator, install the piston and go to work.  You'll never know you put melted lube in.  It will work as if you had installed a stick.  A good way to measure out the quantities is to weigh on a postal scale.
