Stocks

I would like to know if any of you have tried extended stocks on your TLA #5. For me the grip frame is a bit short. I had a set of extended stocks made and my control and ability to shoot better groups was improved.

I made a set for mine but did not like them as they were to "fat" at the base as I kept the same grip frame shape throughout. I have the originals on now and am quite fine with them. Note that I tend to shoot 250's at 1200 fps so recoil is relatively mild.

We modified the frame on my set a little to avoid the "coke bottle" effect and it worked out quite well. Mostly involved straightening the line on the front strap.

Interesting topic 2 dogs,

Thought I'd chime in with some personal observations and musings.

The standard stocks are just right for me although mine are kinda plain Jane.  Others were offered, Ivory, Stag and fancy woods but I was trying to stretch the funds at the time and opted for case hardnening.  Ten years later I had Paul Persinger fit it with some of the most georgous ivories I've ever seen.

A couple years ago, I found a pair on Ebay, some nice fancy walnuts with the s/n 9 embossed on the backs.  I've often wondered why/how they got separated from the original gun.   Seems real strange.   I've not seen nor heard of anyone else finding/selling TLA stocks.

Being s/n 9 you'd have to think it was one of the earliest guns.....except for the fact Grover offered the buyer the option to personalize his gun with the s/n of his choice.  This feature clouds the research on how many TLA's were built.  On my TLA, I chose to have Grover select the next available number in line (K140).

As a side, the #9 stocks do not fit my gun.  They are of a slightly different shape which leads me to believe Grover worked with different frame patterns.  Also, #9 is drilled for one pin hole where my  frame has two.

I'm always interested in TLA discussions.

I have 2 TLA #5's and both grip frames are different. I also have one by Clements and it is different from the other 2.....

I had a chance to buy K9 two years ago and didn't.  Grrr....

My gun, K11, did not come to me with the factory stocks.  If anyone ever finds them, I'd love to have them.  It has Scott Kolar stocks on it and they are very nice, but I'd love to have the factory stocks tucked away.

Cubrock,

Do you know the history on #9 stocks and why they were separated from the gun?

No, I don't know the history on them or why they were separated.  At the time, I didn't even know it didn't have factory stocks!
