450 for Encore Pistol
« on: July 15, 2006, 10:00:54 AM »
I was wondering if many of you guys have one of these barrels.  I have an oportunity to get one with a muzzle brake and was wondering how the recoil is with this cannon.

I got one for my boy several years ago.(he's 21 now). With factory loads it's a little worst than my SSK 14" 45/70. I load the same load as my 45/70 in it for hunting here in  Ohio. It has a factory brake on it and has a 15" barrel. NOTE: if you scope it send it off somewhere good(my big kickers all wear SSK  TSOB's) and get the best mounting system you can afford. The original owner just put on a Weaver base with 2 rings and ate the scope ,mounts and rings right between the eyes that knocked him out cold. It now wears a 1/4 rib TSOB with 4 rings. Accuracy ain't that bad about 1 1/2" @ 100yds. I shoot 300gr Hornady's and they do the job on the deer. My boy killed 2 deer with this combo last year. Rubber grips help with recoil and if you've shot heavy kickers b4 the 450 is a hoot!
