They're about equal now days.  Handle one of each, see which one 'feels better' in your hand and go with that one.

The factories are in  the same town and the owners are good friends. I called on a gun that did not have the maker identified on it and uberti referred me to his " pissano down the road who made it"

Just my opinion, Colt clone, either.  Remington clone, Uberti.  Uberti has dovetail front sight.  Big advantage.

I like the UBERTI colts, but I had to do some aftermarket detail work before I could shoot it.  Steel shavings and burrs and loose screws, and a little syncronising the cylinder rotation.  I don't know if different retailers sell different grades of them or what.  I know Cimmaron advertises better quality UBERTI's.

I paid a little more for the PIETTA than other distributors advertised and this gun was ready to cock and roll.  Beautiful gun.   I still like the UBERTI, just kinda burnt me about the outa box results.

Yes, there are different grades of Uberti, and maybe you got some new old stock.
I've had both makes and would choose Uberti as those I've had and been around have just been better.
That said,I admit I have an old brass frame '58 Rem by Pietta that I bought cheap and works fine with my target grade loads. Just so happens the cylinder throats, bore and timing are all correct. This is the first Pietta I've had that works this good, but I knew what to look for.
