scope problems
« on: July 16, 2006, 09:18:47 AM »
i bought a simmons 2.5-10 that i got for a steal.  at 100 yrds it shoots great groups, but at 200 it opens up more than i think it should.  one day it will group great out to 300 yrds and on other days it will be all over the place.  ive shot on iron sights at 200 with no problems so im pretty sure its in the scope.  so now im to the point of buying a new scope, and was wondering what all you guys and gals out there had on top of your rifles.  im looking at the new line of aetecs, but i was just wondering if anybody has shot them.  i have also had a problem with the scope hitting me in the nose, which has made me move the scope as far forward as it will go.  im guessing the accuracy problem is parallax, but any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Simmons 2.5-10X that I got economically that works great as well.  If your gun shoots well at 100 yards but opens up at 200 yards, I doubt very much it's the scope but rather think it's the gun/ammo.

I have gone more and more toward using Leupolds.  I am getting less and less patient with brands that sometimes are good.  The eye relief is good as well as evidenced by my using them on heavy hitters such as a 375 H&H Mag. and 458 Lott.

I like the Leupold first and then Nikon.

I am with Redhawk on this issue.  Hunting/shooting time is to important to have it spoiled by equipment that lets you down.  Optics are one thing that it doesn't pay to skimp on.  I also like the top of the line Bushnell Elites as well.

Spend the extra money on a Leupold, I know it cost more but in the long run you wont be dissapointed.
