How far would you go???
« on: July 22, 2006, 07:42:09 AM »
This could be an interesting question for some of you. How far would you go on a weekend to go predator hunting? Round trip 250 miles?, 500 miles?, A thousand miles or more?
If you could make a trip on a weekend to a place you know you'd get 10 to 20 coyotes, would you go a thousand miles? ::)
Nowadays with the gas prices the way they are, :-[ you'd have to be real hardcore or rich to go over a thousand miles. So lets leave the gas prices out of the question. ;)

oso45-70 :  If you shoot Coyotes using a table for sure won't get twenty or thirty no matter how far you drive.   Larry

It's not an invitation. I asked a simple question, how far are you willing to go? Damn, how hard is that to understand?
Read the question over again, it's real simple........... ;) ;D..........maybe I'm so old I don't belong here ??? :-[

Onecoyote.

Maybe my humor is not allowed on here, I had no idea i was going to be graded on following instructions to the letter. Next we will be graded on spelling and punctuation etc. I answered the question so you knew i would go any where at any time for any distance and for as long as any one wanted to go. The TABLE was so i could shoot p-dogs in my spare time ::) ::) ::) and have a rocky mountain spring water, you bring the table cloth ;) ;) ;) I sure hope i have not ventured to far to the left. In other words there are no limits on how far i will go to call and KILL the wiley Coyote. The main thing in life is not to take every thing so serious and enjoy life to the utmost, Life is too short to take seriously, You ain't going to get out alive any way. Hope you all have a great day........Joe........

HA HA, I was the one joking lol. ;D The internet has no face, so how are you to know if someone is messing around or not?  I know better then that, I should have put funny faces. You're totally right Joe, never take anything to serious in this cyber world ;).

I asked a question that I should have probably answered first anyways. Once a month for 8 months out of the year for 10 stright years I'd drive from Southern California to central or northern Nevada to compete on predator hunts.
If you look on a map that's  a 1000 to 1500 miles round trip on a weekend. That don't include the other weekends I'd go predator hunting in Mexico, Arizona and California. Truth is, at the time I'd go where ever it took to win hunts or to kill predators.

Would I still do it? Hell yes lol. ;D

Gblmm: Laughs out loud!...kind of like pulling teeth huh? LOL..Ahh such is the Comadirery here!

On The Average I Will Drive Anywhere From 10 to 20 miles.
I am taking alot, and by the signs this year am getting alot back. I have several calling sites with more that one supporting multiple stands. Time is the real issue here...The average working person has to be able to make the time during the work week and also on day's off to hunt in order to get other domestic chores done.
I have been known to be hunting coyotes on Christmas eve, but under the dire warning to make it back by dark for the family dinner!!

On the other hand, If I had access to some really prime real estate as pictured, I may drive 1,000 miles.

Glance,
I almost got divorced because of the time I spend in the field. For many year I went every other day in the winter.putting up to and over 500 miles a day on the jeep or truck.leaving at dawn and not getting home till 2300 hours are later.it was all I lived for.But I make em so miserable at home now during coyote season (winter months)they pack my lunch and beg me to go..I would go anyplace to meet a friend and go call filthy coyotes.and sample martinis of the area... :)

Glanceblamm.

who is the good looking dude with the Coyotes????? Sure looks like he found the bonansa of the wiley critters.

One Coyote you are only three wives behind me. The country where this picture was take sure does look yotyish. Might be inclined to drive for some of that.

This might be of interest to some. I talked to a friend from up in the northern part of this state and he said he watched a lion chasing four antalope across his property this last fri. But the lion lost the race. He lives just south of Clayton NM about 15 Mi.s. He is one of my hunting Buddys cousin and one heck of a caller of the wiley coyote. May have to take a trip up there to see him, He also said the P-dogs are dying like flys " plague " I guess.

Well gents thats my report for today, Stay tuned and i will make another report later..........Joe............ ;)

Koyote

You have probably learned (like I have) that the wife needs a companion. If she
Doesn't have one, everyone is unhappy, even the boyfriend! (HA)
Thank goodness for sons, daughters, and friends but sometimes I will have to be the
Companion.

oso45-70
I have never met that lean, hard looking hunter but it looks like he spends alot
of time at it & covers alot of ground In addition to being in some great looking country.

onecoyote
I have to agree that those coyotes dont look like they came from there.
They look large and I was trying to determine size based on the kneeling hunter and
The possible height of the fence post.
Still look large, especially the one on the left, Care to guess what these coyotes weigh?

Yeah, the coyote to the left with the cowboy hat on is 6' 177 lbs, the others are small southern NM desert coyotes, biggest maybe around 25 lbs.
Actually that picture was taken off hwy 54, mile marker 105 on a dirt road that goes under the RR tracks about a mile in. It may look good, but the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence, either side in this case lol.

glanceblamm, I'm spoiled because I've live in the South West all my life. I've predator hunted in all it, from the mountians to the desert to the sea. It's an awesome place, more then most people well ever know. If you ever get to this part of NM, stop in.
