I had a BSA RD30SB and they quite inexpensive and had it on my slab side for 5-6 years and still works like the day I got it. Only recently have I upgraded to an Ultradot Match 30mm 4 Dot. The difference in the dot appearance and quality is quite significant. But it depends if you want a $40 or a $200 sight and what best suits your needs and budget.
Still you cannot beat the olde BSA for the price/value for a lower end sight. In comparison the ultradot gives adjustment for 2, 4, 6, and 8 moa dot sizes, an excellent feature and also it has 11 brightness settings which most red dots have these days. It comes with rings, polarizing filter, lens covers, extended sunshade and rubber eye piece. Larry's Guns has these online for as cheap as you will get anywhere with free shipping and absolutely excellent customer service. Llink is

30mm gives a wider field of view than 1" (25.4mm) and imho a 4moa dot is about as large as you want to go for most types of target shooting or plinking for that matter. I use the 2 MOA 99% of the time.
