Help me spend my money

I am in a bit of a quandary.  I have been saving for a new single shot hunting rifle (originally planning on a Ruger #1A in .243, but have been leaning toward an Encore more and more) for some time.  I got very close to my budgetary goal, when out of the blue, a coworker offers to sell me his grandfather's Marlin 336, made in 1949, for 150 dollars.  Naturally, I can't pass that up, so my single shot is pushed back a couple of months.  No big deal.

Now, here's the rub...same guy is asking if I want to buy his Dan Wesson 4" blue 44 magnum, and also, a bunch of my coworkers are preparing to buy several Garands from CMP.  So, I could forget both and stick to my original goal, or postpone the #1/Encore yet again in the interest of not passing up a good deal.  If I do that, will it be revolver or Garand?  They are both firearms I would like to own.

I'm really in a quandary here.  Any suggestions?

Tough decision. I usually ask myself which gun is the easiest to find later, and base my decision on that. I buy the one that's the hardest to find because I might not get another chance at it.
 So which of these is the toughest gun to find? :wink:

Good point.  Looks like the single shot can wait a bit longer.  

Now, what's harder to come by, a Garand for $425, or a DW44?  Looks like I need to do some research.

Garand, Garand, Garand, Garand, Garand. You can always find quality .44 mags, and neither T/C nor Ruger is going out of business any time soon.

marlinman93's suggestion is absolutely Brilliant!!   But a Garand?  I don't think you can do that.

This the single shot rifle forum.   A Garand does not qualify as a single shot rifle.

Therefore, you need to make another selection.. ;D

Of course! What was I thinking? If you buy the Garand you must toss the enbloc clips away, and only shoot it single shot! ;)

Ok, Lets try this...

First get the 336 and pay the $150.00 in cash.

Give up eating , drinking and wenching for about a month (that means the 336 is actually free).  Order the Garand and put it on your credit card (CMP prefers this).  It takes about three weeks for CMP to process the paperwork, and you don't have to pay until the next bill.   If you are lucky with the timing, and can hold off on the eating , drinking & wenching another month you will further reduce your costs.

The above plan will net you two rifles over a two month period for half of the regular cost!!

Wow.  I 've got nothin' to come back with ;). 

Anyway, the decision has been made.  I'm passing on the Garand for now, and getting an Encore (7mm-08).  I know, I know, I'll probably wish I had the Garand down the road, but those single shots really have been calling my name. 

Besides, I would burn up my gun/ammo budget feeding a Garand.  That'll take a little longer with an Encore.   ;D.

Thank you for your suggstions, gentlemen.  Ingenious as always.
