WWG trigger
« on: July 07, 2006, 10:25:13 PM »
Has anyone installed a Wild West Guns Trigger Happy kit? My 1895 trigger is bad, and I've been looking at getting one. Just looking for comments from anyone who has used the kit.
Thanks,
Steve

My WWG trigger is one of my best.  Every one I know who has installed one has been very happy with it.

I just put one in my 1894FG.  It is okay.  Pull is 3-3 1/4 pounds but the trigger is still a little creepy.

In my opinion it is okay if you do not have access to a good gunsmith.  Before my gunsmith had a stroke he did two Marlin trigger jobs for me that were better than the trigger happy kit in my opinion and only cost $45 instead of $90.  The kit is just plain way overpriced for what it is.

Expensive, but well worth it.  You will not be sorry for the purchase, and it is a true drop-in.  No adjustments to make.

There is of course nothing like a good trigger job. Dropping a trigger in does not do that really. However, I do not care for the Marlin flop and so I simply eliminated that from the stock triggers my Marlins came with. I have used two do it yourself methods. One is to tack weld the two pieces together and the other, which is simplier yet, I take the trigger out and wrap a single piece of copper wire, obtained from stripping a piece of household wiring BX cable, (one piece solid type) for enough to handle easily and then  just wrap and twist. Cut off the excess, tap it all flat and reinstall the trigger. Works to take out all the flop and can be returned to normal should I (heaven forbid) sell the gun.

Tell me about "Marlin Flop."  I have a 30AW (with crossbolt safety) and there is no take up at all in its trigger.  I did a trigger job on it and it works fine, no creep and about 2.5-3 pounds.  I heard on the Gunsmithing forum about takeup this is supposed to have.  As this is the only Marlin lever gun I have I am beginning to wonder if I have something abnormal.

I traded off a Winchester Model 94 a couple months ago because of the take up in the trigger.  My other Winchester is a 9422M and it has a great trigger, so will be kept.

I installed one in my 1894FG today, it fit right in place with mainspring re-installation the only hassle.  Definite improvement, but as others have stated it's probably no better than a gunsmith could do (cheaper) with the factory trigger.  I'll feel much better about hunting with this gun this year, my other centerfires are bolts with excellent triggers and the 1894's now a lot closer.   Should make the lever action silhouette events a little more positive, even more so if my backordered Williams rear sight gets here soon!!

The Marlin Flop must be the way the trigger rattles around when the hammer's not back.  The factory trigger is made up of two pieces and it looks like the return spring only acts on one of them while the trigger blade itself is free.  It does appear pretty shoddy although the limited shooting I've done with it showed it reliable.
