Tried 435gr thunderheads in my 475 today.
« on: August 08, 2006, 04:19:13 PM »
Got a chance to shoot alittle bit today. Tried some 435gr thunderheads from Penn bullets in my field grade 7.5" with express sights. 24grs Win 296 was good for 1280fps and about all the fun I want. My bruised and bloody index finger shows I was having alot of fun. :)  Accuracy seemed to be excellent. One group I had 4 shots touching and the 5th about 1/2" away. The other groups were also tight with many shots touching. It's hard to shoot really tight groups with express sights, but I like them for hunting. I'm going to see if I can find a good load with these bullets at about 1100fps.

Hi,
  Try WC 680/AA1680 ---30.0 to 33.0gr will get that  velocity.I shoot a lot of WC680 in my 480 R and 475's for low/med loads.

I had Veral at LBT cut me a 440 gr. WFN, which has been the most accurate bullet in my .475.  I shoot them at 1340 fps ave.  not fun either, I tried them at aroun 850, and they shot very poorly.  I am intererested in hearing how you make out shooting your bullet at 1100 or so, as I haven't tried any "in between" loads yet.  I finally got a LEE 400 gr. mold  after 3 tries that makes round bullets, and I will probably use this for lighter loads.  I am curious as to how you fare as to whether your accuracy stays as good with a reduced load.  They will certainly be nicer to shoot.  Good luck.
