45-70 BPC in a 14" barrel
« on: July 21, 2006, 03:50:42 PM »
During muzzle loading season I can hunt with BPC in a handgun.  I was wondering what kind of performance I could get out of a 405 or 350gr bullet unsing 777 or maybe the preloaded Goex BP cartridges?

Thanks

Should be plenty. My 38-55 Contender 14 incher was within 150 fps of my rifle with the same BP loads.

Ensure you are using cast lead!  You undoubtedly know this, but a lurker may not.

Also, watch out for the front sight; it may try to hit you right between the eyes!

Yep about the cast...

As far the front sight hitting my fore head, I frequently shoot a 454 with 360grain  @ 1550fps....I doubt I will get that out of a BP 45-70 in a 14" tube
