Springfield 1873 Question
« on: August 02, 2006, 07:41:00 AM »
I just received at Springfield Model 1873 "trapdoor" rifle in 45-70 as a wedding present from my uncle.  I did some research to try to find some history about this particular rifle, but didn't find too much.  It was owned by my great-great-grandfather, but we are unsure how he acquired it.  He lived in the Pittsburgh area so he may have gotten the gun from somewhere local, but I suppose it really could have come from anywhere.  The serial number is 12104.  I was wondering if anybody could give me some history on this gun such as, the year it was produced and possibly where/who it was issued to.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
