Bogmaster a Beaver question
« on: September 25, 2006, 03:51:55 AM »
Tom in your opinion is a trapper better off to set real heavy for beaver, like 60 sets and sell your beaver in the round or set less and put up your pelts and sell them finished.I've always thought it paid to put up your fur.I have an opportunity to get into a big stretch of river that hasn't been trapped for at least 3 years and there seems to be a high population.Everything else is dried up so it seems to have concentrated the beaver on the river.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

You came up with a dandy question  lol.
I have never sold a beaver in the round, but I have sold countless green. When I am hitting them hard,I still skin every night.I try to limit myself to skinning a dozen a bight, these are then bagged and frozen.
If you do it this way,you can put them up and ship them ,at your convenience. When things slow down.
Thats just me,you will have to figure out how much fun and abuse you can stand.

Ditto on what ole Boggy does, i do the same and when things slow down  then i put my bvr up.  Sometimes i will sell spring bvr skinned But found out  you get same price as in round.  Dont have enough room  or buyer close enough where i spring bvr trap to be able to sell in round.

Thanks guys.I'm seriously considering going after beaver real hard for 10 days and selling them in the round.I have a buyer that will meet me half way.Use a boat in the river set heavy, pull them after 2 checks and move.I might be getting too old for this lol. There's been a real good coyote "hatch" this year. That is where my heart lays.
