I once bought some old millsurp 30/06 ammo at a Militaria/gunshow. Money changed hands and I was picking up the bag when I mentioned that it was time to make my Garand bark. The Dealer grabbed the bag from my hands and shoved my money back and said “this is WWII ammo it ain’t for shooten!! I felt like a worm fisherman in a Orvis shop. Well today at another gun show I stumbled on something I have never seen, a box of 100 loose 6.5X55 mill surp. I grabbed it and opened it to make sure it was as marked as it was in a plain brown carton. At home I opened it and saw a few had some corrosion and so I dug through them all to cull the ones that needed further inspection.
As I did so I find they are all mixed dates and rather old. I gather the numerals on each side of the head are the date over the K. So I have 11, 28,33,38 and more. My question is “is this stuff for Shooten….. or collecten….. My cartidge collecting is a few dozen odd and intersting specimens. I would rather sell off this stuff and buy a bayonet, can never have enough of them.... Thanks for your input. I just don't want to shoot them up if they are of value as a collectable.  JB

Most (not all) foreign milsurp ammo is shooter stuff, unless it is a very rare caliber, or extremely old. I suppose if one collects old Swede Mausers it would be nice to have some ammo from the same era, but I don't think it's going to be in high demand. I'd say shoot the latest, and when that's gone start shooting the rest if you haven't found a few buyers who need a little.
