Hammer won't cock
« on: July 17, 2006, 03:40:29 AM »
A friend brought me his Contender because the hammer would not cock.  It  is not a lock-up problem as it occurrs on barrels which used to function fine.  It is real frustrating because sometimes it will cock fine and the next time you pull the hammer back it won't stay.  I feels the same as when you try to cock without having opened the action first.
A seem to remember a previous post on a similar problem, but I can't find it.  Someone out there must me able to help me.  It's got to be a relatively simple problem!
   Thanks,

Hi
Maybe...There are two allen screws that adjust the trigger. One is for over travel,  the other is take up on the trigger pull. If the one for the trigger pull is tightened too much, it will not stay cocked. If the over travel is in too far you cannot get it to fire. Maybe? If that does not do it buy some starter fluid, Maybe $1 for a spray can, go outside, and spray it all over inside. That will clean everything!!!! You will need to lube lightly, after, if that gets it to work.
Good luck

There was a guy on here for a while that said TC told him to clean and not to lube, that lube just attracted dust and grit.  I can't stand metal to metal without some lube, but have been using dry lube when possible.  My guess is the frame does need a good cleaning to get it to work.

As was mentioned in the earlier post I've found a product used in locks that is a dry graphite spray is dry and won't attract dirt. I've used it for 10 yrs and better without any problems.

I would concur with jimann. probably one of the adjustment screws. If not, maybe a bad spring.
Just another worthless opinion!!
