30-30 or 35

I am planning on getting a new 336C soon. I'm leaning towards the 35 Remmy. I hear the 35 hits alot harder. What do ya'll think??

What do you plan to use it for?  I got a .30-30 more for fun than anything, but plan to hunt with it, too.  Wouldn't trade it for a .35.

I mostly just always wanted a Marlin levergun. I will use it for short range deer hunting.

i have a .35rem and it is a fine deer gun, but as the cost  and availabilty of the .35ammo in this area goes , i would choose the 30-30 if i were buying a new one , really not that much difference in ballistics, and with the new hornaday lever-evelution ammo the 30-30 is a formidable weapon for any-thing deer size or mabey black bear.

I have both, but if I were buying new, just for deer, I would get the 30-30, only for easier access to ammo.  That said, I'm glad I have both :grin: .

If you plan to hunt something larger than whitetail in the future, then I would probably go with the 35 Remington.  Had both, have the 35 Rem now.  The new Hornady ammo appears to be a real plus for lever guns and the 200 grn round for the 35 Rem should be a nice deer, black bear and elk round.  30-30 is common so if finding ammo is a problem, as has already been posted, it would be a good choice.  If you can order ammo, or have no problem finding it locally, then 35 will hit harder.  Good luck.

For inside 125 yards, the .44 magnum Marlin 1895 pretty much surpasses the 30-30 and is good on bring down deer, boar, coyote, even black bear if you get put in that position ... Might be a cheaper choice for a very useful lever gun.

For inside 125yds, just about all of Marlins leverguns will work fine.  The 35REM is my favorite cartridge, but it's just a personal preference.  The 30-30 will work fine if that's what you choose, though.

 30-30 or a Rem .35?   I`ve got a marlin 336 in .35, love it. Either way you go you can`t go wrong, IMO. 
   Check out your local gun shows maybe you can find a good used 30-30 or a Rem .35,better yet buy them both, problem solved.

IMHO the 35 rem is a much harder hitting round than the 30-30. Every deer I shot just dropped in its track. I heard some great reports about the Hornady new lever evolution ammu, I bought a box but have not had a chance to take it to the range yet. I am very optomistic about the results.

I have three lever actions 30/30 44 and 35 if i had to choose just one it would be the 30/30 its accurate ammo is cheap and you can take all the deer and black bear you want with it.

I favor the .35 remington but that is only a personal choice. You didn't say if you do any reloading. If so, ammo availability isn't a problem for the .35 Remington. However if you don't the 30-30 might be a better choice.

For what you plan on hunting and the range either will do fine. You just need to understand one thing. This probably won't be the end of your Marlin lever gun purchases. I have .22, 30-30, 35Rem., 444 Marlin and a 45/70 all in Marlin lever guns. I will eventually add a .44 mag and a 45 LC to the safe. It does become a sickness.   :D

I almost bought the .35, but went with the .30-30 because no matter where you are, you can probably find .30-30 ammo . However, from the posts I've read, it seems that .35 owners really love their rifles, and wouldn't shoot anything else. Maybe I was just being overly cautious . . .

Get the .35. Although "paper" ballistics look close, the 35 will penetrate deeper, which is needed on larger game such as bear and hogs. Shoot the 200 grain, I've heard the 150 grain sometimes fails on game.

I have both also in 336C;but favor the .35.Like a few of the guys said,you can always find .3030 ammo.35 is more scare.I reload so I have no problem in that area.Hey,there's an idea;take up reloading,buy "both" rifles....problem solved ;D........Rick

I HAVE 1 35 REM  IN 336,  2 32 SPECIAL   MAR/ WIN  AND  AND  6  30-30'S   MAR/ WIN/ REM 788 & CONTENDER  PISTOL   AND WOULD NOT PART WITH ANY OF THEM .      MY ADVICE CHOKE HARD  AND GET ONE OF EACH      VIC
