I would suggest a Horton Xbow , you may spend a few $s more but you'll get a much better bow and better service. The higher end Barnetts are not a bad xbow, but more than you may want to spend. Go to your local pro shop and try shooting the xbows they have and pick one that is most comfortable for you, then look for a used one.

I agree with digger I have two Barnetts and one is a cheap starter xbow  (ranger) the other a Commando  and while I killed two deer with it they are pretty underpowered for a 150# xbow. I would think the RP 150 is better but not that much better. Horton has some good starter kits with all you need for around 300 bucks which will give you a good compound bow and all you need to get started.  If you could find a used Excaliber for that 300 bucks with accessories grab it but I would bet digger did not mention that as he knows used Excalibers are hard to find and hold their resale value.  After shooting my Excaliber my Barnetts are in the closet. I have seen the Horton xbows with the accessories for 300 bucks and they are not a bad deal and they shoot good too.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Now i know about tight budgets. Those Hortons are ok, if you could swing $400 you can get a new Excal Vixen with peep sight. Shop around fer half dz. 2117's or 2216's or 2213's. and half dz. new Bheads, string wax, rope cocker. Make your self a bag target using burlap bag and old clothing. Look around fer an used Kwikee quiver and yer set.
Keep yer nose into the wind & slip from tree to tree in the shadows, you have come fer pilgrim! Miss Vixen & Miss Phoenix, I am The Vixenmaster!

Yea if you could swing the extra cash I feel an Excaliber is the way to go but I am biased on them after owning one. Some thing you will find with most Excaliber shooters.   ;D

Yes i am also bias, Excal is my choice. I have the Phoenix and want the Vixen when i can afford one or trade fer one. I have shot the compound xbows and they are good. Just too heavy and not simple and easy to work with. Even a Vixen comes with same trigger and safety as the top model  does. A nice and crisp 3lbs. ;D
