Summer Celebration
« on: May 13, 2003, 06:16:33 AM »
Just got home from college on summer break, and I'm already thinking about the coming squirrel season.  This year I plan to utilize two different firearms for the chase.  A Ruger Super Single Six and a S&W K-22 Masterpiece.  So, being fairly new to handgunning, I set out yesterday to get them both sighted in just the way I want 'em.  Then I took 'em for a walk through the woods on the lookout for some various targets to test them out on (tree branches, knots, fungus, etc.)  It's gonna be a challenge for squirrels this coming season, but I've still got plenty of time to practice and that's where I'm off to now.

Went out again today after dinner for some more target work, both formal and informal...For the informal work I shot at a golf ball.  Just about the size of a squirrel's head so I figured it'd be good practice.  Plus, it jumps around quite a bit when hit.  Spent the evening chasing it all across the field...The further away it got the harder it was to hit...After noticing it was getting on towards dusk I decided to swap out the .22lr cylinder on the Ruger for the .22WMR.  Boy that golf ball sure hopped around when hit with those suckers...Only problem I had shooting the .22WMR is that it made me realize how much I need a bigger revolver.  Something with a little more oomph.  Maybe a .45...I'll have to go window shopping this weekend...

I hear that!
I'm trying a Ruger 22/45 Target with a red dot sight this fall.
