new to the NEF pages
« on: August 14, 2006, 08:27:30 PM »
 hellow guys
checked out other pages. I am looking for a 22 hornet, woodchuck sniper tipped me off on to looking into a NEF, and these pages,  been looking in these pages for a few days.this is looking real stong like it may be the way i go.  Well i can get a few differt barrels that i have always wanted too.  I like the look of these little guns too. one question. in the FAQ section in the twist rates list, there is a listing for 444 marlin. but in the NEF site in the barrels section, i could not find this barrel listed. Is it available ,does any one have one? If i can get that barrel too, I'm hooked. most of the guys seem real pleased with seending in there stuff for refits heck for the price of some of the guns i am thinking about i could fill out a big chunk of my wish list with three or four extra barrels. also i could not find a picture of a yellow & black laminated stock set, read in one of the threads that they were made in that color. would like to see a picture if any one has that combo. great site ,you may be hearing from me again, this is afordable, i might not have to wait all the way to christmas. ;) it might only take a few months to save up enough to get started on a new addiction   D.C.

Hi D.C.,

Glad to see you found the forum  :)

In regards to the yellow/black laminate stock.  I just called NEF/Marlin and spoke to a nice lady tech. at the NEF div.  They do not have the "yellow/black".  Now that I know my Hornet shoots moa, I too am interested in a nicer stock obviously black/yellow looks neat on a "Hornet" and she agreed  ;).  They do make their own stocks and she will put it in the suggestion box for us.  Maybe 07??? who knows??

They have a nice camo laminate too btw.

If you get a Hornet.  Please remember they do not come with the hammer extension (spur) because they come with iron sights.  I suggetsed she put that in the box also because likely most get scoped and in my case my local dealer had to steal one from another box for me once the scope was on, for easy hammer cocking.  Also, you need a scope rail on the Hornet.  I used the recommeded here Weaver 82 (7 or 8 bucks at local shops) and medium Millet rings.  This gave me a nice minimum clearance above the hammer of about 1/16" to 1/8".  For myself the check weld to scope height allignment is very nice on the Handi Hornets non raised comb stock............really like it  ;)

The gun continues to shoot well as I have shot a few more Woodchucks with it.  The last one shot Sunday at about 145 yards with the 35 Gr Hornady factory ammo made a pin prick entrance and blew up inside with no exit.  BTW- The "THA-WHAP"!!! impact was quite loud.  I feel the faster 1-12 twist of the NEF's really help these bullets expand/frag (higher rpm's). I know you are interested in fireing approx. 50 some grain custom bullets in hand loads.  So the faster twist NEF (in fact it's the fastest twist Hornet factory I am aware of) will surely help you there too.

Latest Handi Hornet Woodchuck from Sunday/ 145 yards off shooting sticks / 35 gr factory Hornady V-Max listed @ 3100 fps / pin prick entrance no exit / loud THA-WHACK! impact  :)

Best of luck,
W.S. / Bill

Welcome aboard, D.C.!! Unfortunately the .444M and the Y&B stocks are no longer in production as are several other offerings that have been available in the past. :( But, keep and eye on the NEF Classifieds here and also on ebay, you'll be surprised what you might find.

Unfortunately H&R won't fit your used barrel for you, they will only fit new barrels to your frame. That's another benefit of having more than one frame, you would have a better chance of a used barrel fitting one of your frames. ;)

Aw yes, Datil siad 2 actions, quickdtoo said more than one frame. I can see right now were this is going.  ;) I guess i better start out with 3. That way i can  have one for my wife and child to shoot too, this could {maybe} lead to less resistance to the collection I see in my future.  ;D   D.C.

That's the way to go, I think Marv has 5 frames and 9 barrels. Right now I have 21 frames and 25 barrels, looking for a few more frames so every barrel has a dedicated frame and stock set, will probably sell a few duplicate barrels to pay for em. ;)
