Krochus,
I just caught the Swiss fever a few months ago and I've acquired four of them now.  I just can't get over the quality at this price.  Mine are in pretty nice shape, but have the usual milsurp dings, etc. and I intend to steam the dents, go over the stocks, etc. and spruce 'em up some.  Your rifle looks outstanding. I assume you have done some sprucing up yourself.  Could you share some of the details?  I really think it looks nice.

My stock was a little beat up itself. I just sanded the bejesus out of it applied a light coat of rosewood stain and 5 coats of tung oil applied over the course of a few days.

Although the pic doesn't show it I left a few small dings and nicks to add a bit of "charicter" It just wouldn't look right if it was perfect.

Does it shoot as good as it looks?

That rifle looks almost too good to take hunting.  :)  What kind of shape was your butt plate in?  The butt plate on both of mine were in pretty rough shape.  Here is what they look like now.   :)

Here are my two K31's.  I have a regular scope mount on mine now instead of the scout mount.  It is probably the same one you have.

I am reloading now and hope to take mine deer hunting this year.  My walnut stocked K31 usually stays in the safe.

Those are some beauties too Jack.  What scope did you use with that scout mount?  I am curious about the eye relief and how it performed.  I intend to put a scout mount on one of mine andI have the St. Marie mount for another.

Well, you fellas have sure dressed up those K-31s and they are certainly pretty.  And pretty accurate too.  You should do well this hunting season and I wish you the best of luck.  I remember my K-31s - no where near as pretty although my stock work turned out nicely (but not as nice as yours) but accurate as can be.  I also recall some North American Whitetail that met that 'Swiss Miss' and they were sure tasty.  Good luck on ya this huntin' season.  Mikey.

The scope is just a cheap Bushnell 3x9 I had lying around.  The scope worked but the eye relief wasn't that great.  I now have a regular scope mount on my K31.

I have had scout mounts on my Mosins and my K31 and didn't like them.  Theres just something about a scout mount I can't get use to.  I had a ler scope on my M/N M38 and didn't like it any better.

I am also a woodworker and used my random orbit sander first to get the worst damage first, then used wet sandpaper starting with 220 grit working my way down to 600 grit.

I did this final sanding while watching TV.  It took a while but I think it was worth it considering how bad shape the butt plates were in.  They actually look better than in the picture because of the flash from the camera.  If I had a way to buff them they would have been even nicer.

And to each therir own Jack  nothing wrong with that.  ;) I know some cannot get used to the scout concept. Myself I like them. I have both my Swede and my Swiss rifles set up with a scout mount setup. Killed a nice doe last year with the Swede it worked like a charm.  ;D
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.
