New guy on the block
« on: July 30, 2006, 02:28:01 PM »
Hi, I'm not really new here, though this is my first time posting.  I've been reading through the forums though for a while.  I currently have...

.22 Mag Ultra
223 Ultra
243 Ultra
308 Ultra
450 Marlin Ultra

I would like an opinion on a good scope for the 450 Marlin, and the 22 Mag if you wouldn't mind.

Hello Top Gun AL, welcome to GBO forums,  I will NOT recmend scopes, alot depends
on Where and what you are shooting, I have a OLD pedfield 4X on my 45-70, compareble
to the 450. most others have 3-9 . I would buy one of better brands if I could. just my
 2 cents. Marv.

Here's my list, I've have the Leupold, Swift, Nikon and Mueller Multi-shot, the Mueller APV is a hit at Rimfire Central, great scope at the regular price, the intro price ends today. The Multi-shot or the APV would be good for the 22Mag depending on whatcha want to do with it.

Of course there are many other scopes, but any of these I think would be great choices.

I'm not a rim fire shooter..but I can recommend a good scope for your 450M...and that would be a Leupold VX-1 2x7x33...I have had excellent luck with all of them I have owned and put thru it's paces with hot 45-70 loads...and have never had one fail. It's a great scope for the money...and I highly recommend them..

Aaron, it's been out for about 2 months now, the initial run was sold out by the middle of June, it's the one I helped develop at RFC, sent one of my Simmons ATVs to Rich for cloning, there are about a zillion posts on it at RFC, 99% positive. The silver models is now available. The intro price ends today, I think, it will go up to $125 afterwards.

One thing I have found with my 22LR. is the need for bullet drop compensator. I like to plink at very small targets out to 100yards, and thats fine if you site the gun in for that, but it don't make it much good for shooting with pin point, Fly kill'n, Nail Drive'n shots then at only 30-40 yards.. there is so much bullet drop from the 22LR that I'm thinking of going with the 22 Mag also, but then I'll still be dealing with all ways wanting to shoot the tip off of a match ;D I've allways said, "The gun can only be as good as the shooter behind the trigger" and  "Buy a cheap scope and shoot cheap, or Buy a scope that is better than any that your friends have, and listen to them tell you that it's cheating" LOL     I like my scopes to have view parilax adj. as well.   But thats just me.

Datil said it best, it all depends on what you want to do and what you will expect from it.

Top Gun Al

Both of my 22 mags wear Bushnell Banner 3x9x40s and i am very pleased with the optics on them , as for the 450 i would go with the Bushnell Elite 3200 in a 1.5 x 4.5 x 32 or even the 3x9x40 . for the price you can not go wrong .

just my .02 worth
