Anyone have a favorite smokeless powder load for the 45/70 using 400 grain bullets? I'm interested in reduced power loads and I thought this forum might be a good place to look.
Thanks.

I have been pleased with 15.5gr. of Unique behind my lee 405 gr. HB bullet.  I also liked 24 gr of 4795.  Your milage will vary.  Best of luck  JB

My favorite load has been 28 grains of 5744 with a 405 lead roundnose flat point for my Sharps and Marlin. Its accurate and has got plenty of power for any animal on this continent too, a friend of mine used this load of a buffalo at 200 yds and drop him with one shot, he told me he found the bullet in the skin on the other side! Thats good enough for me, Oh its easy on the shoulder too.

I'll second the 28 gr of 5744.  It is easy on the shoulder but yet very effective and accurate.  It's my all around load!  You will like it!  44 Man

When not shooting "777" or Black Powder; I shoot Hodgdon H4895 or IMR4227.
