encore .243 and speer 105s

i am thinking about getting a .243 barrel and would like to shoot the 100-105gr. bullets thru it. my main interest is the speer 105gr. hotcor. anyone tried these?

I've loaded these in another 243(Interarms MarkX). I had to push them up to Max on the powder. I believe they're actually made for a slow twist barrel. I've since tried the Hornady A-Max 105 with better results. I still need to push em some but they shot pretty good.

Over the years I've had much better luck with 100 gr bullets by Hornady or Sierra and a load of H4831 or H414.

My 24" standard taper 243 prefers 80 gr to everything else. It will shoot 95 - 100 well enough to place a confident shot on a deer, but the 80's follow each other through the hole the last one made.

My son uses a Remington 788 in 6MM and the Speer 105 for deer, and has since his 17th birthday.  He is now 40 years young, kills at least one deer each year, no waste, no long tracking, no second shots needed.  We hunt eastern Washington wheat country, shots 80-260 yards.   We have stuck with this combination despite the availability of newer, more modern bullets.   Based on this experience, its a winner.  I have an identical rifle but am hung up on a beat up old 270.....

I believe that the 6MM Rem had a differrent twist rate than the 243. If it was slower,that would make it stabilize the longer and heavier bullets better.

No, a slower twist rate is for lighter, shorter bullets.  If it's long, it has to spin faster to stabilize.  The 6mm/.244 Remington was conceived as a varmint round and the early rifles had a slower twist.  After Remington's round was clobbered by the .243 Win, they increased the twist rate and started offering heavier bullets.

That is correct, Remington introduced the cartridge first as the 244 Remington with a fast twist for varmit hunting.  Later, with a slower twist it was reintroduced as the 6MM.   Ours are the later version, actually shoot quite well with 80 grain bullets which my son uses to clobber prairie dogs,  I prefer my 17 HMR, 204 and 223.   Occasionaly, I drag out the 22-250.   Got a bum right shoulder after radiation treatments for cancer-didn't entirely work either!  Again, there a many great 24 bullets for deer out there.   We started with the 105 Speer and stayed the course.
