Elk load using Barns TSX in 280 calibur
« on: August 05, 2006, 07:20:56 AM »
Hello,
Anyone have any pet  hunting loads using the Barns 140 grain or 160 grain TSX bullet. I  just got a old Remington 700 ADL in 280 calibur and I want to work up a load for Elk hunting. I am new to reloading so just looking for some help.
Thanks, Josh

Barnes says to follow the load data for their original X bullets and work your loads up slowly to maximum or 1 or two grains beyond as long as you don't equal the load of their other "low pressure" bullet as that would be dangerous. They also have a disclaimer that says to follow the original X bullet data if you are not comfortable working a load up on your own. That pretty much tells me that they don't want to take the responsibility for you blowing your gun up and injuring the people around you at the range. I you use the original data for the X bullets you ar close enough to the maximum that they write their disclaimer at that point. Until they have reloading data for their bullets I won't use them. I like to have tested information behind my loads - At least that way I know within a few thousand psi where maximum pressures are.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.
