Iron sites needed
« on: July 27, 2006, 08:09:39 AM »
 I'm in a pinch here everyone :(

 I started this post...  http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/smf/index.php/topic,95410.0.html

Now I'm coming here and a couple other places for some desperate info... Here is the deal if you did not look at the link above... I ordered a .50cal ML barrel for my NEF Handi rifle, it comes with plastic open sites, I just sold my CVA because it left me without a front site durring the hunting season, Cold and Plastic don't mix well. I have broke severl of them off hunting in the heavy brush/swamps and would like to replace the plastic sites with some good steel ones, can anyone help me with this info... where? who? phone number? anything please.

Minnesota law says I cant shoot with optics/scope durring the season, I need open or peep sites.  Please PM me with any info. Thanks.

I'd probably start with Williams.  http://www.williamsgunsight.com/

They have a 1800 number listed on their web site...I'm not sure if they can help you, but I'd sure give them a call and see what they got.  If they can't help you maybe they know of a competitor who can.

Brownells has a few sights listed for the handi:  http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/catsearch.aspx?k=rear+sight+handi&ps=10&si=True

Again, you might give them a call as they might have a few others that an online search doesn't show.

If you like peeps then also try Lyman..........

Evidently you never got to the NEF/H&R Centerfire forum as recommended by Mangulator, the answer you seek is probably in the FAQ and Help sticky under Peep and Firesights. ;)

I've been posting and reading so much I don't remember where I posted last :-[  Thanks for the links, I have made a call to Williams and have found what I need, I just have to wait for the barrel to get here so I can take some measurements. Thanks for the help. ;)

Iwas informed that the new NEF ML has aluminum alloy sites and not plastic like I was origonaly told, so I'm going to sit tight till it comes and then make the decision, I just might go for the rear peep, not sure yet. But thanks for the help.

I used an old set of Lyman off of a 22. Becasue they are not about to bolt up easily, I took a strip of scrap and twisted it a bit after heating in with a blow torch. The screw holes where a bit tricky because I didn't want any play. The final result is below. I would suggest you use a lot shorter piece of scrap though, this one is too easy bend and will really through off your POI.

Good luck,
Chris

captkev, just sit tight and wait, all the new H&R/NEF ML barrels are now coming with metal sights. If by some chance (doubtful this late in the game) you get a new barrel with the old plastic sights contact H&R/NEF customer service, be polite but complain and they will send you metal sights for free. thier CS people and service dept is top notch and they stand behind thier products far over and above the printed warranty!!!....<><.... :)
