.577
« on: November 27, 2006, 06:13:38 AM »
Does anyone know the difference, if any between the .577 Snider and the .577 "bottleneck snider"?
Are they 2 different rounds?

Thanks

I will have to look that one up, I thought the .577 Snider
was pretty much straight walled?

I can not find any reference to a bottlenecked .577 Snider.
It has a slight taper though.

Yep, I found out. The thing that screwed me up was Dixie's description of their basic case:

"For the nitro express shells; drawn case, measures 3 ¼” long. Use 210 large rifle primers. We recommend black powder only. Will make the following cases: .577-450 Martini Henry, .577 Nitro Express, 2 ¾” and 3” long, and .577 Bottleneck Snyder. Box of 20."

It could be some sort of Obscure sporting round?
I actually thought the .577-450 was a necked down
.577 Snider to .45 caliber. Measurements appear to be very slightly
different though. Still could be parent and child though I guess.

That's what they're refering to....the "necked down" .577/.450
