Any new "Magic Bullets" for the H&R Smokepoles??
« on: August 01, 2006, 06:31:43 AM »
 :)

I've been laying low for awhile, but just got starting thinking of my Huntsman and Sidekick...

Are there any new sabot bullets that load as easy as the Powerbelts, but perform better??

Powerbelts load easy and shoot well, but I still continue to hear from friends that I trust and on the web that bullet performance on large game is BADD!

I'm looking for a high-performance bullet in a sabot that's sized to load easily in the field with Huntsman/Sidekicks for a quick second shot (or third or forth, for that matter).

Am I just dreaming?

Nice to see you around, perklo!

Lots of different bullets that shoot well, but nothing NEW that I am aware of that is easier loading. The Harvester Crush Rib Sabots are loading easier, I'm told. I haven't did any testing lately, except round balls and Maxi Balls out of the old T/C .54 sidelock. It's been hovering at 100 degrees the last couple days here. :'(

T/C has a NEW Super Glide Shockwave Sabot in standard and bonded, both 250 and 300 grain. The sabot only has two petals and is supposed to load easier. All reports I have heard have been bad, both in loading and accuracy. PowerBelt has a NEW Platinum Bullet, all reports have been poor accuracy and I am not a proponet of PowerBelt Bullets for several reasons. Barnes has a NEW TMZ (tipped MZ), polymer tipped all copper, Knight also markets it as a TBT (tipped boat tail).

I will probably HAVE to try some of these for myself anyways, just to see. You know how that goes.

Got anything new for us tinkerers at your site? Haven't checked in lately. :-[

Busta,

It has been HOT, ain't it?? I went out in the afternoon Sunday with one of my huntin' buds and hauled a shooting house into position with my 4-wheeler, and then we put up one ladder stand and by then in the 97 degree heat, we wuz DONE!

I have a pack of the new Barnes TMZ polymer tipped and a pack of the older Barnes all-copper sabot rounds ordered to try out. Maybe one will be a winner...

For the life of me, I don't understand why sabots don't come in 2 or 3 different O.D.'s in each caliber. That way you could custom match a bullet to load firmly but fairly easily in your gun's bore...  Dreamin' again!

No, I'm sad to say I have not put up anything new lately on the site. I've redesigned it (mostly my wife, she's the HTML guru)  as a Beta version, but haven't finished any of the 4-5 half done instructionals as yet. I have a Marlin 30-30 trigger job, a Supplies section, a few odd collected H&R things and misc. other items that COULD get posted - if I ever got busy and formatted them!! I have way too many arms in the fire it seems, and time is my enemy.

Good to hear from you as well - perklo

Perklo. I use 250 grain shockwave bullets in the harverter crush rib sabots. They are not quite as easy as powerbelts, but close. I use this in my omega and sidekick over 100 grains fo triple 7 ffg loose. I get greataccuracy and knock down power out of both. I buy the shockwaves throw away the sabots that come with them. I order the crush rib sabots from cabelas. Just my way but it is the easiest loading sabot I have found.

Bubba, are the Shockwaves .44 diameter or .45 diameter?  In other words, which Harvestor Crush Rib Sabots should I order from Cabelas?  The .44 or the .45 diameter?

Moonlitin,

I'm not Bubba, but the 250 grain & 300 grain Shockwave/SST are .45 caliber. The 200 grain Shockwaves are .40 caliber.
