Feeling the itch again ... must be the dry air
« on: August 14, 2006, 08:01:17 AM »
Well I getting the itch to buy another Handi specifically the superlight in 22 hornet.

The usage is mainly as a centerfire trainer for my boys something they can handle (my oldest are 10) and use on gopher and when the time comes (at least next winter) move up to predators. Though I can't say I won't use it too :) a guest predator gun or when I want less power and/or less noise than the 204 (I have been hearing rumors about fox and bobcat around where I hunt) or the hmr is out of ammo.

In the interest of wieght I'll probaly keep it iron sighted for now but If memory serves there should be a Williams peep sight that I could mount squeesing a bit more accuracy out of the gun. One question about the peep does it replace the existing sight or does it go where the scope would go.

Speaking of accuracy I seem to remember that the hornet version of the superlight was not as hard to tune as the other superlights specifically the 243 version, or am I dreaming. I am not sure if this gun will ever see a scope but if it does it will be a compact 6x

It will be a while before it comes home, it will be the standard put it on layaway and pay it off with saved coffee money (I'll miss you starbucks :)  ) when it gets home I be starting with 40 gr noslers and lil'gun and go from there. I'l probably buy one box of factory just as a bench mark (35 gr hornadys unless someone has another option).

Here one for you the local shop has two, what inspections would you do to try to decide between them.

The Williams WGRS peep uses the 2 rear scope base mountng holes. The best source for the WGRS is direct from H&R, it's considerably cheaper, price and part number is in the FAQ.

From everything I've read on the Superlight Hornet, it's very accurate, it doesn't suffer the problems of the .243 SL, most likely due to less barrel heat. Vincent at RFC bought one for his daughter, but he loves to shoot it as much as she does, which causes a little friction tween em!! :D

That part number does not seem to be on there website anymore just the sight for the BC but i'd imagin it would fit. I'd love to put a lyman hooded front on it too but I forget how the front sight was attached. if it is 3/8 dovetail itshould go, I just plain forgot too look.

The part number which was provided by Busta, is in the FAQ under the 2005 Retail Parts Price list, a post which is an update of stuff that's not any where else.

The front sights of current production rifles are attached with a 6-48 screw, older models used a much smaller screw which I don't know what it is, a 3 or 4-48 or some such. Take a look at the Peep and Firesights link in the FAQ, a bit of info on both sights there.
