ejector to extractor, positive or spring driven?

Quick question, will converting an ejector to an extractor force the empty out or is it still spring driven?  Probably a silly question and I know it's been talked about millions of time but the search is disabled.  Maybe I missed it in the FAQ.  Bottom line with a converted ejector can stuck cases still happen?

  I did the ejector to extractor on my 45/70 barrel and left the spring in and it works fine

Matt, it won't make a mechanical extractor out of it, in fact, if the brass hangs up a bit, it will still fly out if it lets go all of a sudden, the only advantage it offers is it will extract instead of eject if the case is free in the chamber at opening. Putting a bb under the spring and polishing the ejector claw and raceway will help, tho. Fred has ejector tuning info on his web site.
