Mossberg ssi-ONE single shot rifle : Still being made??
« on: August 10, 2006, 09:53:06 AM »
Hi:

Does anyone know if the Mossberg ssi-ONE single shot rifle is still being made by Mossberg?  I see it on their website. I was looking at the heavy barreled varmint rifle version.  Any opinions on that rifle?

Thanks,

Even though a lot of people don't like them I am a fan of the SSI's, I have 2.
Here is what the people at Mossberg tols me, "We have suppended production of all Mossberg SSI firearms and accessories to concentrate on other firearms at this time."
It looks to me like they dropped it rather quietly. It didn't seem to go over very good. Most people have complaints about the weight, heavy trigger pull and lack luster accuracy. I have even heard quite a few people complain about fit and finish.
All that being said I really like mine and yes it had a very heavy trigger pull when I got it, it is now down to about 4.5 to 5 lbs and is pretty crisp. The accuracy now runs 1.25 to about 2.0 with most every thing tried, after a recrown job. It is still heavy, not one I want to carry walking the hills all day, and the fit and finish on mine is top notch with a little bit of figure in the butt stock. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I ran across a good deal. You can check with www.cdnn.com, they may have some rifles/shotguns left, the barrels will interchange. Might be easier to pick up one in a shotgun form and then find a rifle barrel for it. Mine are in 30/06 and one in 12 ga. rifled. I am looking for a 308 Win barrel or will trade my 06 barrel for a 308 Win barrel if you run across one.

I don't think they will be bringing it back into production. I got an email from Mossberg saying that the ssi-ONE rifle  "has been obsolete" .

As I stated above I think it was Mossbergs way to drop the SSI but leave them a way to bring it back if there was a call for it after they announced it was stopping production, which the call from customers to bring them back never came about so now they have offically dropped it. Too bad, I really liked the rifle, I think it was sleek with smooth flowing lines. It just needed a little tweaking (like a lot of new rifles), but it was still heavy. I'll continue my search for a 308 barrel, maybe one will turn up sometime. It's almost as cheap to but a complete guns than just a barrel except I can't find a rifle in 308 either. Just my luck, LOL.
