22 mag to 223
« on: August 12, 2006, 05:22:37 AM »
First post ever. Been reading board for about 8 months. Bought my first Handi (22 mag) because of this site. Question is, See they sell 22 lr and 223 barrels in 3 barrel combo, can you fit a 223 barrel to a 22 mag rifle? Seeing how 22mag is a rimfire and 223 is a centerfire.

Supposedly, from what I have read, there is something different about the firing pin location on those 3 barrel combos.  On the other barrels, it won't work.

Welcome aboard, MI149!! If they're like the Versa pack, the firing pin is not in a different location, the rimfire barrel's bore is off center and the frame is a centerfire frame, SB1(low strength) in the case of the Versa Pack. The combos would be on an SB2 rifle frame and the bores offset on the rimfire barrels. Unfortunately, no one has a combo yet that has reported on it, the last time anyone contacted H&R, they weren't in production yet.

The only way the combos will work is to have an offset bore , we all know that H&R is NOT going to re-design the frame to have 2 firing pin locations like TC's do , the $$$$ alone would just kill them.
