West Virginia Bear hunters
« on: June 17, 2006, 02:49:56 AM »
I just bought 20 Acres of land in West Virginia in Hampshire county and will be hunting it this year. Any West Virginia hunters out there that can give me some tips for this area for bear hunting. I am on the north side of highway 50 just outside of Romney.

Thanks.  :D

Redhawk1,
You can go to www.wvdnr.com and get the harvest results. I looked at the 2004 results, (couldn't find the harvest results for 2005). it doesn't look good for Hampshire County. Total bear harvest for 2004 was 1235, only 2 bear were taken in Hampshire County. Most of the bear were taken in district 2 which is Central West Virginia, east and northeast of Charleston.
Good luck and leave a couple for me.

Yes I visited that site also. I know I was told bow hunting only was allowed in that area and no bait hunting. I guess you just have to be in the right place at the right time. But thanks for responding.  :D

Yes I have, I went to WV this weekend and picked up a couple of different products at the local store. I got Harmon Bear lure, it smells like Ice cream and I also pick up one that is Anise. I also picked up Wildlife Research Centers, Ultimate Bear lure.
Also found out I will be able to use a gun this year in my area.   ;D

I always find it hard to pick a gun, I have handguns, rifles and slug guns. But I probably will go with my Marlin 1895 Guide gun in  45-70 or my S&W 460 Mag.
