custom handi stocks
« on: August 14, 2006, 03:11:02 PM »
I am currently putting the finishing touches on a stock duplicator that a friend and I have fabricated.

I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

What type of materials and looks would others like to see.  I know the factory laminates all go over well.  Would many be interested in different laminates?  How about different woods.

I am starting out with the idea of just doing some different stuff for myself, but the thought of at least selling a few to pay for my investment has crossed my mind.

Ideas please

Josh

How about fruitwoods like apple and pear?  Woods like maple?  They all have a definite distinctive look that used to be very popular with older rifles.  I'm getting a stock for my Rem 700 custom project that is laminated bamboo, very light and very stable.  Just another thought.
If life is a beach, why am I so crabby?

Any of these colors would be cool for me, especially the Imperial Laminates and the Rosewood..

What is a fair price for a handi stock to everyone?  There is a ton of work that goes into the finishing.  Stock materials only are anywhere from $50 up.  Would a nice stock be worth $100-$200 depending on the material?

I have done some refinishing and think I do a dang good job, especially on laminates.

I have also been thinking of a monte carlo thumbhole stock.  Would this be of any interest?

Thanks again guys.

Black & Yellow Laminate and yes I like thumbholes.

The only thing I don't like on some monte carlos is if the side swell is to much it keeps your eye from proper allignment........at least on my pumkin head  :)

I also like the "camo" laminates with green inthem.

I would like to see "Hickory" for a Handi rifle.

Price- laminate finished drop in w) checkering $125.00 w) color multiple color choices.  Willing to wait up to 3 weeks for delivery after order placed. Normally I phone in but, I really like companys whom send a e-mail confirmation of the order too.  Prefer credit card.  Hickory- more, maybe $200.00

I would be interested in one.  Please pm me in the future if available in yellow/black laminate or Hickory.

Hope this helps,

W.S. / Bill

Regards

I prefer drop in / finished.

Truth be told...I would rather finish it myself...and save on the cost...but...a nice purple heart stock set finished and checkerd...would be very tempting...and $200 would be a fair price. A couple questions for you...is these stock sets exact replicas of the Handi stock set...or are they thinned to mate the recievers better...and are the forearms thinner...or the same boxy type?

At this point, these would be replicas of the handi stocks.  As i said, I have been toying with a thumbhole stock, but other than that, I have made no modifiations.  I am sure the handi stocks are the thickness that they are because of the different calibers.  I would sure hate to have anything thinner on a 45/70 or whelen and expect it not to crack around the receiver or pistol grip.  Depending on the woods I used, I would have to be careful of the same thing.
