how about a 280
« on: August 14, 2006, 01:25:34 PM »
I've been itching to get a 280 I wanted to get one in ruger but if I got a NEF its $300.00 cheaper. I have a NEF 30-30 I have not shoot it yet but love it so is this a good choice in the 280 and what is a good factory round in the handi. I really want to get in the handis like i said in my first post I am starting to get the handi fever.

The 280 is an excellent round. And even more so if you are willing to handload for it. Lots of versitility in the 7mm..
Most here that own 280's have had great sucess with the cheap Remington Core-Lokt's.
And if I might ad...
What are you waiting for?? get out there and shoot that 30-30 man ;D

Get one...you'll like it too...I did...mine shoots great with 2 factory loads...

Here's a 10 shot group at 100 yards with the Remington 140 grain factory..

For something a little stouter than deer...Here's some Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Bear Claws...just a 5 shot group though...

I'll second what Arron has said...They are great barrels...and Please do go shoot that 30-30..

Thanks ya'll my local Wal-mart said they can order one for $198.99 plus taxes. I really want to get one before huntin season gets here. The reason I have not shoot my shot 30-30 yet because I have been working six days a week for just about all year but we have cut back to 40 hours starting this week  so just as soon as I can get to where I shoot I wil be there firing away. Again thanks for the replys

Go for it man!  The 140 grain Remington Core-lokts seem to shoot well in everybody's Handis in this caliber, including mine.  ;D
