old trap part question

I recently got a very old victor coil and on the trap chain ring there is a small metal triangle like thing, I dont know what it its, its not a drowner lock but Ive seen it on other old traps, what is it and whats its purpose

Its a anchor or spike of sorts....trappers used to hammer those into logs and such to anchor trap into place.
