Lowrance iFinder Hunt GPS
« on: October 12, 2006, 10:04:27 AM »
I would appreciate any inputs on the Lowrance iFinder Hunt GPS.  I thinking about getting a GPS mainly for hunting.  I am a novice with using a GPS, but not a novice in the deep woods.  The bigest option I am looking for is Topo capability, hunter type icons and larger screen that the Lowrance seems to offer.  I really don't want anything too complicated.  I am also conscerned with the ruggedness of the unit as well. I figure it's time to enter the 21st century.  Most of my friends seem to own Garmins.  Any reason for this?

Back in the old format there were a number of post I believe by DakotaElkHunter.  I think he purchased the Ifinder Hunt GPS.  If he reads your post he could offer his experience with the Lowrance Unit.

I understand that using Lowrance MapCreate can be a little tricky.  Depending on the person.

At first I liked the Buck head Icon the Garmin uses.  But I have quit using it for another symbol.  The reason why is that other hunters I was helping with a gps and explaining the advantages took to much interest in the Buck head symbol.  Naming the waypoint Herd was not to smart either.

Easier to use the Skull and Cross-bones symbol.

Take a look at the HuntC and compare with the Hunt.

There is a learning process to effectively using a gps.  Do not throw your compass and map away!

Try the explorist 210.  I hear they are good, thinking about getting one myself.
